Here's what I'd like to have in the dream remote: the ability to have a button rotate through a set of codes each time I press the button.
I figure I would assign a list of codes to a button similar to how I would program a macro. Each time I press the button, it would go to the next one on the list, wrapping around when it gets to the bottom.
Here are some uses for this:
1) favorite channel scan. I *don't* want to have the remote automatically go through channels on a timer. I want the control. I can have one button rotate between any number of presets, much like on a radio.
2) cycling through surround modes. Hey, it's a knob on my receiver front panel, I'd like the same functionality on the remote. I always use one of three modes, it'd be easier to only have to hit the same button at most twice than to remember three different buttons.
3) cycling through receiver inputs. Similar to #2. Yeah, I have my remote macro'd up so I do most of my input selection through the macros, but when selecting an oddball thing like tuner or something it would so easy to just hit the same button until I get what I want. Like I can even remember the assignments of all the inputs to my numeric keypad anyway...
There's my $.02!
