My URC-9800 was working fine with my Onkyo TX-DS474 receiver, Samsung DVD player, and Sharp VCR.
All of a sudden, the remote became "confused" and keys that used to be mapped correctly (such as volume or mute) now don't work properly. The volume up button on my tuner, for example, now mutes my tuner. The channel up button turns the unit on or off. This is a problem, now, with all of my A/V components. It's a crapshoot on which buttons now work and which don't. Most don't. The original remotes from these devices work fine, so I know it's not my components.
I thought my controller was bad, so I bought a new one from Good Guys to test out my theory. The new one worked great for two days but it's now done the same thing. This time it happened after I "learned" the learning keys on my DVD player, and added a new CD player. I'm not sure why this should affect my tuner and other components, but it has. I've followed the "clear all" steps to get rid of the learned keys, but that didn't help. I've tried re-programming my device buttons with the original numbers (I'd written them down from when they originally worked), but that didn't help. I tried pulling the batteries and leaving the device to discharge and lose memory for a week and then re-programming. That didn't help either. Doesn't matter if I'm using RF or IR.
I now realize there's something very wrong about these devices that can't be easily fixed. Once it's gone awry, any attempts to reprogram, reset, or reconfigure the device doesn't help. Any help would be appreciated. I love the RF capability and the functionality of the remote, but now it's just an expensive paperweight, though. The remote's a few months out of warranty and I'll be REALLY upset if I can't get it fixed. This problem is obviously a common one if I could get a two day old remote to do this.
If you post a response, please send via e-mail, too...
