How much memory in a 15-1994?

My 15-1994 doesn't seem to want to accept any more programming - If I try to put about 3 more keys into a macro, I get a long blink and the macro isn't taken...

Does this sound right? I just have a sony TV, VCR,
yamaha amp and apex DVD player coded in, with volume
of VCR, TV, DVD assigned to amp volume, and three 5 stroke macros... Is this all the memory there is,
or did I mess up somewhere?

Any suggestions? Should I wipe it out the programming and start over again?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

You have the Apex DVD player, so you used up most of the key mover memory setting that puppy up. Did you program more buttons than you need, did you program the numeric buttons, but in practice hardly ever use them? If so, I would suggest clearing everything out and starting over.

Also, you have room for about 24 learned buttons, and they use a different memory bank to key moves and macros.

Plus, here's how the memory works. When you set up the macro, let's say it used up 14 bytes of memory, then you programmed some more buttons after that. Then when you go to re-program the macro, first you need to delete it, which frees up a block of 14 bytes, but then you try to re-program it with three extra buttons, so it will need 17 bytes for the new macro, but there isn't a block of 17 bytes available, there's just the original 14 byte block, and whatevers left at the end. Even if the total number of free bytes is enough, there isn't a large enough chunck for the new macro. In other words, your memory is fragmented, in this case, clearing out the rmeote and starting over would fix that.

Thanks Rob - I've got everything worked out now - but
I managed to think up more questions... ;-)

Despite macros being active in all device modes, are
they stored in the memory area for a specific device?
(Do devices have seperate memory areas?)
(I ask because it I think I was able to set up a longer
macro in one device than another...)

Thanks,
Steve

Nope, that was just your imagination, macros and key moves are all stored in the same place. The only difference is that the macro isn't tied to a device button, whereas key moves are.

If you're interested in actually seeing exactly how these are stored, byte for byte, visit here: [Link: hifi-remote.com] and click on "Memory"

I must have fragmented my memory terribly. I've hit a limit of about 30 learned keys and can go no further.

You did well to get 30 buttons learned as the limit is usually about 24, that's why it's always better to program missing buttons using advanced codes if you can (ie, if you have found a partially working device code).

You can program up to 45 buttons using advanced codes if you don't have macros.

Rob...Are the advanced codes for Replay somewhere on your site??

Yes they are, but remember that you can only use advanced codes once you have a working device code, and there isn't a device code for Replay pre-installed in the 15-1994, so you'll either have to learn the buttons, or you'll have to add the device code yourself using a home-made upgrade box.
