How do I open my 15-1994?

Someone spilled beer on my 15-1994. I sprayed the front with water (better water than beer), but it's still a bit wet around the corners of the buttons. I'd like to take the thing apart and dry it out.

I've removed the two screws in the battery compartment, but it still seems to be pretty tightly put together. Doesn't budge a bit.

Has anybody successfully (e.g. without lots of scratches) managed to open their 15-1994? If so, how?

Thanks.

Get a fairly thin knife (ie, not so sharp that it will easily cut up the remote, but thin enough to fit between the two halves) and use it to try the upper and lower parts apart. A blunt steak knife should work.

There are about three molded clips along each side of the remote and a few at each end. If memory serves correctly the top fits into the bottom.

I've not looked inside a 1994. My Cinema7 (also made by one-4-all had two screws in the battery compartment to remove. Check carefully for screws. don't try and pry a remote apart if it's still screwed together.

Thanks, Robman!

I used a tiny screwdriver (as I didn't have a knife which was both thin enough and dull enough to be safe).

As you said, the top fits into the bottom.

There are 3 clips on each side, 2 at the bottom, and 2 at the top. The clips at the side are on either side of the point where the remote begins to flare out, and then one more set halfway toward the back from there.

If anyone has a 15-1994 apart, and owns a digital camera, please take pictures of the circuit board and email them to me or put them online somewhere and drop me a line. Hopefully the markings on the IC's will be readable, or you can copy down the markings.

We couldn't find the IC, we can see the EEPROM chip, which is an ATMEL chip, I don't remember the numbers but HW HAckr has them. There is a big black blob that might have a chip under it, that could be it.

Rob.
