HELP! I can't find any codes for the Radio Shack 15-1994 that will work with my Panasonic VCR (PV-4466) or my Bellsouth Americast digital cable box (says "Microware" on the back, but nothing else indicating what brand).

Correct me if I'm wrong: if I have to learn the codes, I'm limited to using the four smart keys for each device...and that's it? Pretty limited. Maybe I'm missing something.

Does anyone have codes (not advanced codes, although that would be great too!) for either of these two devices? Any other advice about using the learning capability would be great too. Thanks!

Okay. I jumped the gun. I reread the manual at hifi-remote.com and discovered that I can learn to any buttons (not just the smart keys) except for SLEEP, FAV/SCAN and the device keys. So far so good. However, with a max of 24 buttons, I don't think I'll be able to reasonably program additional buttons for my TV, DVD and receiver *and* have enough left over to learn a complete, but limited, set for both my cable box and VCR. I really need those codes for both devices... Thanks again!

Sorry, I don't have them myself... and Radio Shack doesn't have an upgrade procedure. Maybe what you need is a full learning remote?

Thanks for the reply. :) One thing I like about the 15-1994 is that it's cheap. Of course, you get what you pay for. (Actually, I didn't pay for it; my g/f got it for me after I told her it was only $29.99.) However, so many people have praised the 15-1994, I decided it was my best bet. Full learning remotes are pretty expensive...

I just did a web search and it seems that Zenith produced the digital cable boxes for BellSouth Americast. Since this is a new box, the 15-1994 will likely not have your box programmed into it. I think your best bet is to simply learn the functions you need into the remote. It is still cheaper than getting a $200 remote that might have the upgraded info for your box.

Thanks for searching and for the reply, Dave. The default Zenith codes didn't work. Since last week, I've programmed the remote using the learning function. I've set up all the functions for my Panasonic VCR, but then I don't have enough memory for the cable box. And if I want to eliminate my DVD remote completely (Toshiba 1206), I probably will need more memory available.

Still, it's a great remote. And cheap! I don't see how people can spend upwards of $200 for a remote. One hundred seems too expensive...

Still looking for codes for the Panasonic VCR and my cable box if anyone has 'em. Thanks! :)

Have you tried the three main Panasonic VCR codes: 1062, 1162 and 1262?

My Panasonic VCR has a very similar model number to yours and I use 1162 for mine.

If you need to program additional buttons using advanced codes, use the 0162 and 0454 device codes.

Rob.

Yep, I've tried all three of those codes, Rob. But thanks for the suggestion. :)
