Due to demands of my wife, the TV stays using the TV speakers for everyday use. The AMP only goes on when I watch DVD's (she detests volume and I don't have the best hearing around; great match).

Anyway, I created a nice macro on my Sony VL-900 using the Cinema 7 to teach it so that the DVD comes on, AMP goes on in DVD mode and the TV comes on to the right Input but I can't find an advanced code to get the volume on the TV to drop to nothing. Has anyone figured out a way to do this or have any ideas? The only thing I can think of is to send a ridiculous amount Volume Down commands to it to assure it's always zero but that just seems silly.

My Sony TV has a menu setting that lets me turn on or off the internal speakers. This does NOT put a MUTE message on the screen, but it normally takes several steps thru menus to switch it.

There are dozens of menu discretes known for Sony TVs. I have the advanced code 098 listed as "speaker toggle" for my sony 0000 device code. If this works for your TV, it would be a very simple code to add from the Cinema to your macro.

Let us know if that works.

If code 098 works on your Sony TV as it does on mine, it will need to be followed by a MENU code, to get the menu off the screen. I have 002 as the advanced code for MENU

David,

Where are you getting these codes? The list I have dosn't show 002 or 098 so obviously I'm not up to date. I'm about to try out this (been busy with the holidays) but it sounds a bit messy. If it is just a toggle, then I'll be able to disable sound going in, but then have an issue coming out. I can't just discreet enable it on the two other components I'd need it for.

The codes I mention are not device codes. They are advanced or "magic" command codes that can be accessed on one-for-all remotes using device code 0000 (and possibly 000) for Sony TVs.

I found some of them thru my own experimentation, and some by culling through several websites that had lists posted on them.

If you have a Cinema7 (7800) remote, you can TRY those codes I gave you on your TV. Press the TV device (assuming it's programmed as device 0000) button. Press the SETUP button, then enter the three code numbers in sequence. Be sure you are pointing the remote in the general direction of your TV and that the TV is on.

If the codes work as I said, then you can use the same sequence to "teach" them to your sony remote to be used in your macros.

Have fun.

My TV (an RCA) has a "Speakers Off" command from the Audio Menu. It's about three keystrokes, so it should be easy to program as a macro...

Perhaps your TV has a similar feature..
