Does anyone know where I can aquire a replacement battery for my Nevo SL, other than via UEI?

This has been discussed on may threads but I have not seen an actual alternate that has been proven to work.
UEI is the only option at the moment.
Please post back it you do find something that works.

D Well I've been looking and think I may have found something that might just work. The battery F54629631, for the TomTom One v1, may fit the bill but I need to confirm the physical dimensions of the Nevo's battery. This one is a 3.74V 1350mAh battery at 51x33x7mm (LxWxH).
Anyone out there know the size of Nevo's battery?
John
Here's and example

Hi John
Sorry to disappoint you but that battery has only 3 wires.
I have just taken my Nevo SL apart as it no longer holds a charge and Armour Electronics who distribute Nevo in the UK want £60 + VAT (sales Tax) @15% £69 with fitting on top and they have none in stock and when they hear from their supplier in a few days in Holland it will then take 3 wks before they get them...lovely, not!
I too would like to fit a more powerful and cheaper replacement.
Anyway NevoSL is dead easy to open:
1. Prise out the lower two rubber feet and you will see small pozidrive screws - remove these. 2. At the bottom, pull apart gently, and it folds upwards on some tags.
Be very careful when pulling it apart as there is a tag at the bottom that could break. Now the battery that's in there is a Samsung SDI Lithium Ion with 4 wires red, green, white, black coming from a very small circuit board on the top of the battery which goes to a black plug very similar to the one on the battery you linked too.
Dimensions are: L52xW36xH4mm. Length is 59mm incl circuit board as it's height and width are the same as the battery.
Now I understand, from the Nevo SL sales brochure, that this is a 1350 mAh battery that takes a +5V DC charge at 500mA.
I will be researching this in England and will keep you updated :-)
First stop tomorrow will be Samsung HO which is only 10miles away from me and I have a contact there :-)

I can see why nobody has succeeded so far!
First off John ignore my comment above about number of wires. You only need + and - from the battery obviously to connect to the charge protection PCB which you take off your old SL battery.
The battery is OEM which means it's not available commercially only to companies to fit in their equipment. I spoke to Samsung in the UK who don't do batteries at all then their commercial offshoot in Holland called Pleomax that does BUT they said they don't do these ones and said try to call Samsung SDI in South Korea but they won't speak to you about just 1 or 2 batteries so I gave up at this point with Samsung.
One of the numbers on the battery PGF523759A does bring up a Palm battery available in France only (?) which looks similar and although it's 3.7V it's only 850mAh :-(
It is a 3.7V DC battery which is the standard mobile phone battery, according to two different electrical engineers I spoke to you can increase the mAh and as long as the Volts is kept the same it will not do any damage but will give more power obviously.
Batteries though, as I found out today, are not listed in size though and it's very hard trolling through them all to find ones that fit all the specs. The max I have found so far is 1500mAh which is not a great deal more for all the extra hassle. i.e. attaching the circuit board from the old one to the new one if it has contacts not wires etc etc. The batteries above 1500mAh seem to increase in size! surprise surprise. Standard Nevo SL battery is 1350mAh if you believe the SL spec sheet. www.mynevo.com/images/uploaded_images/NevoSL_brochure.pdf
BUT (cop out for the moment I know) I have now found, by pure fluke, a supply of genuine Nevo SL batteries in England and will be picking up mine tomorrow, sorry I know, but I want my SL back up and running ASAP. The place is trade only but will sell to me as I am buying it through my company.
Battery cost is £67 + 15% VAT = £77.05 and does not include delivery or fitting either.
John I am in Surrey and work in Berks (not sure where you are) so if you can get your Nevo to me I am quite happy to get 2 batteries and fit yours as well!
I will keep looking but it has to be 2000mAh plus to make it worth while and so far no luck at the physical size we need :-)
TBC...

Hi shawnduhast,
I'm in Tadworth! Is that near you?
I don't need a battery quite yet but was thinking of finding a source just in case but, if I were to get one now, what would its shelf life be?
I've two SLs, the first of which is over four years old and is still running on its original battery. Wifi has not been enabled and it is placed on the base each night.
Nevo two was purchased from Allders in Croydon back in February. I beat them down on price to £125 but when I got it home, found the battery was duff. I took it to Armour in Woking and, £99 and a couple of weeks later, picked it up. This one is used upstairs and has Wifi enabled. This too is cradled each night but when I want to sleep, I place it on the charger. :-).
Can you share the supplier's details? A mate of mine, the dealer I got the original Nevo from, could aquire a battery later, if its shelf life is an issue.

Spent quite a bit of time today speaking to Battery dist. & manfs and all agree that you are not going to get much more than 1300mAh out of a battery that has to be no bigger than 65mm x 38mm as it fits in a recess in the circuit board. Prob can be up to 8mm thick.
As far as I can tell all the batteries that are 1500mAh or more suddenly increase in size as it stands at the moment, what it will be like in another 4 years when I need to replace this one again? hopefully technology will have moved on again in batteries and hardware :-)

Shawn,
Once you get hold of the battery, can you let me know the make and model number? You never know, it may be available elsewhere!
John
