Hey guys:

Longtime lurker, first time poster. Just wanted to let you guys know that the broken backlight problem is fixable, and that I've done a step by step post with the fix over at AVS:

will they give you a new one if your remote is no longer under warranty?   i'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say no.  which is probably why he decided to open up the remote and take his chances...

I believe Nevo is fixing these or swapping them out regardless of warranty date. However, you will need your dealer to call and get a trouble ticket. They don't want to talk to end-users. So eBay buyers you are out of luck here unless you can get your ebay seller(doubtful) to call Nevo and get a trouble ticket for you.

No, they don't replace out-of-warranty remotes for failed backlights. There are probably enough good reasons to think twice about buying through eBay sellers without exaggerating the warranty coverage one gets from authorized dealers.

Agreed, Rick. These failures are pervasive enough (to the point that it seems one should expect it to occur at some point) that it has to be considered a basic design flaw. The annoying thing is that it looks like such an easy thing to resolve by simply adding the extra "pressure layer" during manufacture.

Well, last night I took my Q50 apart and did the tape trick which worked fine......the back lights now work. The only problem is that now my touch screen display has gone very dim and can not be adjusted back to normal level. Hmmm.....it went very smooth just don't know what could have caused this. I will be now moving on from UEI products to something new. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Rick
