I have a Sony CDPCX335 Mega CD Changer and a simlar model for DVD's. Is there a simple way to program the 500 CD's titles and commands in the Nevo ? Or do i actually have to program each command to every CD or DVD?

I have the 400 disc DVD player at home, and the only way I could see it working would be to create a macro for direct access to a disc (if that is even possible, havent tried it yet)   and using some album art for the button.  Seems like that would take up at least  40-50 pages on the nevo just to accomplish that.  I could see doing that for a CD changer, but since the DVD changer has an onscreen display, I can't see wasting the time to create a file for that.

Thanks-

Yes I agree - Its just i went from a Harmony 890 that had this feature built in. It was called "media" and it was probably the best feature Harmony had to offer. I couldn't stand the pre-defined web config. for the Harmony so i went with a more "high end" model ... The Nevo - dont get me wrong the Nevo has been 100% great - was just wondering if there was some options here that I missed. I understand the interface thing with the DVD player - but I find it to be somewhat slugish and "not as cool" as having the stuff on your actual remote. Thanks for the tips ...

Do yourself - and the client a favor and get a media server or media manager like Escient. Here are some names to consider:

- Vidabox
- Niveious
- Request
- Escient
- K-Scape$$
- Apple TV
- MCE
- S1 Digital

There are many more but I have been there adn done that with entering and hard-coding DVD information in the programming and it is a thankless task. It's always outdated, unreliable, and never enough for the client.

Hello,

"I have the 400 disc DVD player at home, and the only way I could see it working would be to create a macro for direct access to a disc (if that is even possible, havent tried it yet) and using some album art for the button. I am still struggling with a good way of organizing my DVD collection. What method do you use? Later on in this post there are mentions of media servers such as Escient etc ... I looked into Escient ... do you know if the DVD's from teh Juke box actually rip onto the Escient Box? or does the Escient just categorize them and provide a graphic interface?

What I am looking for is some "box" to interface with my DVD Juke Box and CD Juke Box (400 disc changers each) that will provide a graphic interface for selecting DVD's or CD's - and can be programmed into my Nevo ...

Anyone ?

I have never done one, but...

There is a 2way module in the Nevo software for Escient Fireball

you can control up to 4 changers with the fireball and view the info right on the remote.  There is a PDF that I could send you that explains it in more detail.  Or you can access it at in the Dealer section of the Nevo site.  Just go to the downloads page, and it is under the Serial Specific Application Notes.

Sick!

Just read it- that is quite cool. Do you happen to know if this is supported for all Fireballs? or just specific ones. The doc didnt mention models it supports. The one i am looking to pick up is the DVDM-100.

Thanks for the info again!

I have no idea, but I would be interested to know what you find out.  It can't hurt to shoot them an email and ask.

From Nevo:

If you use the Pre-configured Serial Device for the Escient, you get the information at the "Album" (DVD) level such as the name of the disc, names of the track in the order they are see on the disc, and name of the artist. When you start a track, you see the track info such as the time, and the amount of time elapsed.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Thanks again for your help!!!!

I sent another email to confirm DVD meant movie DVD's - here's what I got back.

From Nevo-
The answer to your question is no.
At this time, the pre-configured screens that we have set up for the FIreball do not show the DVD's.
The only screens that are available are the ones that are shown in the Nevo Application Note 13 "Using Escient Fireball with Nevo.

Too bad, would have been a nice feature.

I must say, Nevo was great at getting back to me quickly.

I have programmed many remotes that have cover art on the actual remote and that queue up a DVD or CD disc. I have done MX-3000's (with DMX-3000), but I have also done this for RTI and Q50 remotes as well. I use a combiniation of programs and then create a globacl macro that actually calls that slot number. It takes a long time to do, is a bit tedious, but in the end the client is happy because he now has his covers in a remote by category. If the client is willing to pay for it, I will do it, and I have made it easier on my end.

Would I reccomend this? Not really - your better off getting an Escient. But the problem is that the Escient will only work with the DVP-CX777ES changer which is serial and many times a client does not have the time or space to uproot his collection and purchase 2 more boxes for his rack/setup.

There are other ways to do this. Media Center with a PC, popcorn hour streaming, Apple TV (if you like itunes which I dont), media servers like Vudu or Netflix (Vudu at present only has 3,000 movies and Netflix has 15K streaming), or a media box like Vidabox, S1 Digitial, Niveous, Lifeware, Kaliedescape, Monual, and the list goes on. However, storage is not cheap and neither are the servers. If your only interested in music it is a much cheaper proposition, but once you add video/movies, the codec abilities as well as storage and bandwidth increase, and so does the price and complexity of the equipment.
