Having absolutely no luck with a customer getting his Polaroid TV to respond to video sensing. Do you guys use the green comp port or yellow? I tried both and am still getting nothing. I wish there was a light on these things (like RTI) that alerts you if it's picking up a signal or not. Any ideas on an alternate connection? For RTI I use digital coax audio sometimes and it works fine.

Thanks

Hi,

There is a light. It is on the NC-50. When it is detecting a signal is goes Green (from memory).

Green is the correct connector on component.

Please remember that the sensor needs to be connected to an OUTPUT and will not work on an input.

Digital coax will also work with the Nevo.

if you are trying to sense when the tv is on or off you are going to need the nevo voltage sensor and a current sensing module. (unless the tv has a 12 volt trigger output) These are the parts that I use for TVs. Unfortunately the price of this setup is much more than just the video sensor.

Nevo Voltage Sensor
Xantech CBCSM1 Current Sensor connecting block
Xantech 781RG 12 volt power supply
Xantech CSM1 Current Sensor

there is a connection diagram for this exact setup on Nevo's website in the downloads section.

This is very interesting - is it pretty reliable though? I am annoyed that this TV does not work. If I had something (like flags or variables) to fall back on I can make the client happy until he is ready to spend more money on parts that might not work. UEI should really take the software to the next level and at least allow us to do some if/then/else on flags or boolean variables. I would be a lot more gung ho with pushing this remote if I didn't have to cross my fingers that the sensors work. The client has already spent over 1K between remote and programming, now I have to tell him that his sensors dont work for his TV?

Thanks for the information.

ive done many systems with that voltage/current sensor configuration. the current sensor is adjustable, but i havent had to even play with that adjustment when connecting a television to it.

i dont see how you could get a video sensor to work the way you want it to anyways, since it is supposed to work on video outputs.  does your tv have a video output?

Not sure, have to go back there. What settings are the piece set to?

Thanks for the direction.

please remember that the only way software changes is for people to use the official feedback channels.

Posting suggestions here is great but does nothing to get new things implemented in software.

Please put it to Nevo via mynevo.com

Also please realize that it takes time for good software to be developed.

Many tvs have a video output, but usually will not output signal on that port if you are displaying one of the HDMI sources.

My

My Samsung FP-T5884 only has audio out, no video out and has only power toggling. I would like to use the Nevo accessories to sense it's state. Will the video sensor work if installed on a audio jack? This TV also has a RS-232C minijack also and I cannot find any information how to use this. Even Samsung Teir 2 support didn't know what do!! Can someone help me see if this might help to sense or control the tv through my Nevo connect.

Help very much appreciated.

Mark

have you tried codes for other televisions?  i havent had any trouble with discreet power codes or inputs on the newer sammy tvs.

i could send you a file to try if you would like.

Thanks, would appreciate it. Samsung was worthless here. I did measure 5.5 volts across the serial plugs though and might try it as a voltage sensor and use the infrared control. Very little information on this tv. If you can send them to me that would be great. I will send you a PM.

Thanks

Let's see - I requested this to Nevo in 2007, again in 2008, and again in 2009.

Your incorrect about how the software changes. The way the software changes is when people all chime in, hence the reason for the post. I have been doing this for a long time and know that they will only put something like that in development if it's a) cost effective and b) enough people complain. Obviously, my complaints have not been enough.

I too have used the Xantech sensors and can vouch that they are rock solid for installs.

The only thing to keep in mind (and this goes for pretty much all installs for cable connections) is to make sure the Xantech/Nevo wires will not be in the way of the maid or anyone around that area. I am speaking from experience because the maid knocked out connection from the sensor to the Xantech block and I had to drive there on a support call. When you add the Xantech piece, you are adding a power supply for the Xantech block, the sensor to the block and a two-wire back to the Nevo voltage sensor, so just make sure it's neatly tucked away and you should get perfect operation from this like I have. And yes, I tried this on TVs (using the current sensor module) and it works just fine.

my installs are all on boats, so I usually put a dab of silicone caulk on each connector that could work loose.  or i use zip ties to secure the power packs in place.  this might be a good idea for you residential installers.
