Just curious to how some of you get around TV's that don't have discrete power, need delays between powering on and sending inputs, and delays based on power without the use of power sensors?

We are controlling some equpment that does not have discrete power, but worse needs a delay based on power with a Q50- what are some of the creative ways to work around this since power sensors cannot be run to the TV in this case? Just curious to see what others do when a run can't be made.

Thx,
Jimmy

One easy way of working around your situation is to create a two homepage configuration.

The main home page would have all the activities and all the power commands. Each activity would power up all sources in the system.

Once in an activity - for example Watch TV - a reference to a second home page would be used to switch activities. This second home page would not have any power commands.

A Goodnight Activity would confirm you want to shut the system down - send all the power commands to turn off all the sources and displays then provide a page jump to the main home page.

Using this technique you need to re-program the right side hard button to reference your second homepage once into an activity or use it for a different function other than a page jump to the main homepage.

Hope this helps.

Drew - thanks, that is great information. I have actually triend this technique, but could not figure out how to deal with music activities (when the TV does not turn on.

Would I have to make basically two activities for every activity, one with a jump to the menu that fires up everything, and one with a menu that jumps to pages without delays?

Thanks

Yes basically. For listen to Music - i would do it like this: (i'm still assuming two home pages with a modification)

If the end user chooses a Listen to Music from the Main Home Page then if they want to change the activity - to say a Video Activity, then I'd have a button reference a third home page when all the audio sources would remain on but the video activities would send power and delays. From the video activities then would reference the second home page where all the activities would not have power on or delays.

Make sense? Its basically getting your page jumps to perform correctly.

I know this is a stretch.....but: Is there any way to use an Optical OUT or an IR Repeater with a Nevo sensor?

I'd like to shorten the delay for input changes on a couple Pioneer Kuros. On power up, their command input delay is quite long, so it's obviously annoying to have that long a delay when the TV is already on.

As has been discussed a lot around here, neither the Voltage nor Video sensing module is directly applicable. And the "Xantech solution" seems like a lot of equipment and expense just to detect power status. As far as I can tell, the IR Repeater and Optical OUT are the only jacks that output anything (aside from speaker connectors) on these TVs.

Like I said, I know it's a stretch, but worth asking just in case anyone's figured a way to use these.....

you would need to use an optical to coax audio adapter.  and then it still would only work if there was actually audio coming from that connector with the tv on.  if the tv volume is turned down, or you are routing audio through an a/v amp, then i dont see this working for you.

i won't do a system anymore without a voltage sensor/xantech current sensor setup when using a TV with a long delay.  it makes it so much easier for the customer to use when the remote knows if the tv is on or not.  it does seem like alot of extra equipment, but once you unbox everything it really isnt that bad.  It would be nice if Xantech would just group all the pieces together and sell it under one part number though.

So these are the exact parts I'd need?  Thanks for your reply!

if you are trying to sense when the tv is on or off you are going to need the nevo voltage sensor and a current sensing module. (unless the tv has a 12 volt trigger output) These are the parts that I use for TVs. Unfortunately the price of this setup is much more than just the video sensor.

Nevo Voltage Sensor
Xantech CBCSM1 Current Sensor connecting block
Xantech 781RG 12 volt power supply
Xantech CSM1 Current Sensor

there is a connection diagram for this exact setup on Nevo's website in the downloads section.

yep, those are the part numbers.

in the downloads section of the mynevo website, look for:

Thanks...I'll read up on that. I'm sure I can find a good online Xantech source.
