Hello all,

I did run the Firmware Update Wizard to update the software of the remote controller.
But when I press a button on the controller now, it sometimes says:

The Firmware on the RemoteController should be updated to ensure optimal operation. Please contact your installer to update firmware now.
Current version: 1.16
New Version: 2.20

But that is what I just did!!!!
And when running the Firmware Upgrade Wizard again, it says that all parts are up to date (although I do not see the number 2.20 for any of the listed parts).

What is wrong and what can I do about it?

Are you an authorized Nevo Dealer? If you are not a Nevo Dealer, I suggest you contact your local Dealer, and have them fix the programming for you. If you aren't a Dealer, you should not have the software.

So very helpful.....

Anyway, melomania, just update your NevoConnect as well, and it should work fine.

Need some help. Just tried updating the firmware on my nevoconnect nc-50 and it seemed to be upgrading fine, said it was rebooting the nc-50 and then came up with an error msg saying "There was an error communicating with NevoConnect. Please press the Reset button on NevoConnect, wait for the blue LED to stay solid, and press Retry." I tried this and it didnt seem to work, the blue light on the NC-50 is always on. Tried resetting, unplugging, and even tried hard resetting by holding reset button pluggin in the power and holding reset for 10 seconds with no luck. The blue light remains solid no matter what and im afraid this thing has been bricked.

I had unplugged everything and had just the usb and power cord plugged in. Really sucks that their software/hardware is so susceptible to this. I have flashed a lot of hardware and know how dangerous it is which is why i had nothing else running with as little potential interference as possible and everything seemed to be goin fine until the software tried to reboot the nc-50 at which point it bricked it and i cant get it back!!

argg. is there anything else i can try?

call nevo tech?
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

Silly question...

Did you press the reset button or the prog button?

Even if it is bricked, if you purchased through a authorised dealer then it should be covered under warranty.

Here's the part where... never mind. I spent time and money to become a Nevo Dealer. If you did the same, you might feel the same way.

Asking for software and info that you should not have is like asking Apple for the core software they use on the iPod and iPhone.

Go ahead and call Nevo and ask them for help. Make sure to tell em that you bought the controller on eBay.

I think that’s funny EVOHOME. I'm not a dealer, but I have access to the same software and information videos you do...I just clicked the "dealer" box when registering on their web site.

I love the NEVO remote, but their business model is flawed. There are few true NEVO dealers and some of them are shady to say the least ([Link: remotecentral.com] ). Those customers purchased from a "authorized NEVO dealer”, where did it get them?

What exactly did you have to do to become a NEVO dealer?

I think you are way off on this one. Apple will supply current software and information to anyone using their product. No one is asking to completely re-program Nevo's firmware.

In your world, only a FORD dealer should be able to fix my truck. Only a Dell dealer should be able to work on my PC. I hope you make money programming Nevo remotes, just dont think you are the only one qualified just because you are a dealer

I think your constant reminder that only dealers should have information only hurt Nevo sales

sometimes it needs to be reset.  make sure you are pushing the reset button on the bottom of the unit and not the program button next to the antenna.

I have to jump in here. If you purchased a Nevo remote on eBay, than you are purchasing from a "non-authorized" reseller. As much BS as they post they are still a non-authorized reseller. They typically sell the product in the grey market and do not know anything about the unit nor how it operates, etc. Also, they are not your dealer of record when you need service or support. Most likely they will not answer any queries after you have purchased the product, nor will assist if you need service, etc.

The only authorized resellers are custom installers who have passed Nevo tests and have become authorized. More importantly, consumers should also be aware that high-end custom installers are also likely "Nevo Certified".

So, if you want to buy a Nevo product from the right source, they should be from Nevo authorized as well as Nevo certified dealers. Then you know you are buying from a good source.

These Ebay sellers are crap resellers who simply sell the product at very low prices. If you buy on eBay you might likely be buying from some middle-aged wife in Omaha who is making a 2nd job out of selling Nevo remotes. I kid you not!!

I had the same problem earlier today. I found a fix, though. Hopefully it will work for you.

I found that my Q50 connects fine to either a USB 1.1 (with a speed warning) or USB 2.0 port.

However, NevoConnect on a USB 2.0 port gave me the same error message you got when trying to update the firmware: "There was an error communicating with NevoConnect. Please press the Reset button on NevoConnect, wait for the blue LED to stay solid, and press Retry."

When I tried NevoConnect on a USB 1.1 port, the firmware updated as expected.

Hope this helps!

David
