I updated my S70 config today but the download failed because it said the config was too large! My configuration is 3 devices, 11 pages split in to 5 page groups but I have at least another device and few more pages to add.

I looked for info about the maximum size for a single configuration but struggled to find anything. Does anyone know what the maximum expected size should be for a single configuration? Also does anyone have a more complex configuration running on an S70?

Can you email me over your config and I'll take a look at it? My email is listed in my profile.

I have a somewhat complex config on my S70 but a more complex on on my Q50, and I have a few clients with very complex Q50 configs for multi-room purposes.
Complete with channels logos for Satellite and Sirrus Radio along with custom backgrounds.

Mine is all custom buttons, backgrounds. My Q50 config is downloadable from the Nevo File area.

Cheers,

Hi,

That does sound a little odd.

I have run out of room but it was a massive job. A little creativity with some page redesign fixed the issue.

I will happily look at the file if Droo can't help.

I'm suddenly having the same problem with one of my Q50s. I just replaced a device (swapped an IR DVD player for a serial DVD player), and even deleted a couple devices that I'm not using in that configuration anymore. The memory usage before all that had been around 58%.

Now, I try to download this updated configuration and it fails, telling me it's too large. If anything, I think the configuration would be smaller than it was before, but there is no way it is suddenly that much larger.

I'm at a bit of a loss here.

UPDATE: Something is very amiss. I deleted another device from that configuration (so it's definitely smaller than it was before), restarted NSP, and it's still telling me it's too large. I'm in quite a fix if I can't update the configuration. I considered doing a factory reset on the remote itself to wipe out its existing data, but then if I still can't download to it I'll be completely up a creek.

Any ideas?

the only idea is a corrupt file

copy and past all the pages in to a new file,
this will bring the devices and macros along with it,
you might need to tweak a little . .
but should solve your problem*

(thats my guess*)

Angus100, I have looked at your program. The only thing that I can think of is your Amp code - looks too generic. But I also loaded the program onto my S70 and it loaded fine.

Funny thing is - when I tried to load my own program back onto the remote - it gave me the error message that the program was too large.

I disconnected the S70 from the PC, then turned the remote off then back on, connected it again and the program loaded fine.

In one way, this seems to fit with the notion I had that it's the remote itself that is the problem. That is, it's somehow not clearing its memory for the new download or not communicating its available memory properly.

But then it doesn't make sense that your own remote would do the same thing. This implies NSP is acting strange, so I'm totally confused. :|

So, in turning the remote off and back on, I assume you mean the side switch? Just move it all the way to the opposite position and back- does that clear the existing configuration?

Hey Brodyboy - yeah on my S70 I took over the battery cover and switched the unit to the off position then back to the one position, put the cover back on. Basically a hard boot.

On a Q50 - the switch is on the side. Carefull this is a 3 position switch. Top is ON, Middle is for SERVICE, Bottom is OFF. Move the Switch to the OFF position then back to the ON Position. Hopefully this will solve your problem. This is the first time it has every happened to me and its weird that it happened right after I tested Angus's config.

I'm always adding or updating my remotes (both a Q50 and S70) and haven't had a problem until this incident.

Hey Drew,

Thanks for that tip...it worked! All is well again. I'm still very curious what that was about and would love to hear any theories. If it's of any "evidentiary value," NSP reported only 27% memory usage after the hard reboot. Then after the configuration update, it was back at 58%, roughly where it had been before all this.

You know how the remote seems to have something that functions like a cache, i.e., some actions are a little slow the first time you use them (after a fresh download) but then they're faster in subsequent use? Maybe something there gets corrupted or doesn't flush properly, resulting in erroneous memory reporting? Just a thought...might be WAY off but just trying to figure this out.

The hard reboot fixed it on my S70 too. Many thanks to Drew for looking at my config!

Hey Brodyboy - I'm thinking its just a memory dump issue. Just like on PCs sometimes. I have an old PC desktop that is running XP which I only use for loading Nevo programming. It sometimes will tell me I can't run NSP but if I re-boot, it will run it fine. Probably similar with the remote - the memory just isn't dumped properly when a new program is loaded.

LIke I said earlier - this was the first time it happened to me after I loaded Angus's config. I worked on my S70 over the weekend and I didn't have any issues. I'll hopefully be able to add my S70 config to the Nevo files section in the next few weeks once I tweak out the program. I've added an Aprilaire Thermostat, Xantech AC2 (to switch bass shaker amps on and off) and added multi-room control of my CAA to the S70 config (which I was using my Q50 exclusively for but I've decided to integrate into both remotes.

Sounds like a cool configuration!

Thanks again for helping with this. I wanted to add, for anybody else who stumbles across this solution, that the hard reboot resets your power settings to factory default (10 min on battery and AC.)

If, like me, you use different settings to get your remote "through the day," be sure to change them after the reboot. I discovered this the hard way when I got the dreaded beep last night. ;)
