I've been having an issue with a Linn Klimax DS which I'm told by Linn is UPnP, working with a Nevo S70 which I'm told is also UPnP. The problem is that when selecting an album, or playlist to play the Linn will only play one track at a time, I then have to select the next track to play and so-on.

Questioning this with Linn I've had this response:

"Investigations carried out to remove the bugs occurring when using the Nevo handset to control the DS range of products, have shown that the Nevo handset does not conform to standard UPnP protocols. For Linn to rectify these bugs to allow the Nevo to perform as expected, means that it would not be possible for standard UPnP devices to control the Linn DS range of products." Customer Support - Linn Products. 10th Sept. 2008

Nevo supplied a similar response telling me that it was the Linn unit that was not UPnP, although noticably, they have not put it in writing... yet.

So be warned, one of these products is not what it claims to be and as Linn are the only ones willing to point the finger in wiriting, I tend to side with them.

Let me assure you that both products are likely UPnP compatible, however, the standard is so loosely written that interpretation is typically to blame for incompatibility. Even slight version upgrades can cause problems. I had the problem you described using a Twonky server and an original NevoSL, and when I upgraded the firmware on the DMR it solved the problem. Next, I upgraded Twonky and got that same problem again. I have now swapped to UVersity as a media server and have gotten 100% compatibility between the new NevoS70 and the Dlink media receivers.

I offer, as mere speculation, that you have two devices with slightly different interpretations of the standard. I do not believe that Linn is accurate when they say that they can only support one "version" or the other and any change to correct the problematic implementation would cause incompatibility with the other. In my prior version of the Twonky media server, they had it working with a vast majority of DRMs, handsets and NAS devices. It was only the installation of an Nevo S70 that broke that prior config, which is now fixed in a swap of servers. I would bet a decent amount of money that a future version of Twonky would have solved that S70 issue as well, as it solved the SL issue in the past, however, I don't have the time with this customer to waste. I will likely try again with Twonky once they've gotten around to actually updating the beta/production version that has been 8 months idle.

Thanks Lee, that's the most level headed and reasonable sounding explanation I've had to date. This system does use Twonky as it is what is recommended by Linn perhaps I can look at an alternative.

Thanks again
