Hi,

After reading some postings around the web it appears that everyone has a different way of getting the 4 hard buttons to display as a solid colour.

Please add your suggestions.

Here is how I do it.

Select the function button (hard button under screen) that you want to change.
Change its font characteristics so its set to not use "Page Font"
Now change the font to "Webdings"
I find that between setting the font size between 18 to 32pt and setting to “bold” works best.
Now in the "captions" window put the letter "g" (caps sensitive)
Now simply select the colour that you want. Try different shades to see what works best on the screen.

Thats my .02c worth.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Hi,

Surely someone has a different way of doing this!

Anyone?

Actually, I've never needed to, as i put colored buttons along the bottom of the screen when I need them. I tend to use the four function buttons for some universal navigation functions, so they're never really available for the color functions.

I did try your suggestion and it worked great.

Hmmm.

It is quite popular in Australia (at least I thought anyway) to put the fast text (R, G, Y, B) for pay tv on the four hard buttons.

The play, pause etc is used on the SL/S70 but I have had a lot of questions regarding the Q50 and adding colour buttons to it.

Do you put text or do you put a symbol on the hard buttons?

Thanks for the input.

The only equipment that has the color buttons tends to be hi-def players, and even they don't seem to use them much. I can see where you'd want them handy if they were important buttons for your TV tuner navigation, so your solution looks great. It'd be nice if an NSP update added an option to just select background colors for those button labels.

I put text on the hard buttons. The left button is almost always "Devices" taking you to a device selection page so you can quickly get to the controls for a specific component if need be, and the right button is almost always "TV Adj" to be able to quickly tweak display settings. These could, of course, be integrated into device pages in other ways, but I find this pretty handy.
