Apparently, there's a glitch in NSP where serial commands that use a combination of ASCII and HEX characters won't work. (Pioneer displays are cited as example components.) Nevo's knowledge base says to convert the ASCII characters to raw HEX in the serial string.

Well, I'm new to serial control (just starting to learn), but one of the first components I have to deal with is, in fact, one of these Pioneer displays. Could someone show me specifically how this "translation" should look? Here's an example of a Pioneer command (discrete command "Input 5"):

02h * * RMC S05 03h

TIA!

Use this to do it manually: http://www.asciitable.com/

Or cut and paste to here to have it done for you: [Link: centricle.com]

Note you don't need to translate the "02h" and "03h" in the example you gave, the "h" suffix means those are already in hex.

So the translation of your example string would be:

02,20,2a,20,2a,20,52,4d,43,20,53,30,35,20,03

Note the commas were put in by me to separate the characters and make it readable. (As are the "%" symbols you will see in the centricle results.) Leave them out to get a truly raw string, if that is what the Nevo gear wants. Also, I am assuming that the spaces in your original example are significant. If they're not, you can leave all the "20"'s out of the translated string.

Hope that helps.

It does! I never knew about that centricle site- definitely makes things easier. Thanks a lot for your quick response.

I have the basic Pioneer Elite and Panasonic RS232 Codes build into a Nevo Device file if you'd like it. Email me and I can send it over. It may also be posted in the Dealer Section of Nevo Website.

Cheers,
