I am trying to control two Tivos in the same cabinet with a Q50. One is a Tivo HD and the other is an older Tivo Series 1. They seem to use the same IR codes. In the tivo interface you can set the remote address so that the tivo remote will only work with that tivo. The newer tivo remotes have a swith to select tivo 1 or 2.

1) Is there a way for the Q50 to send this remote address so it only controls one of the Tivos? I have looked through the Tivo IR codes but didn't see anyway to do this.

2) I do have a nevo connect, so I suppose I could use the IR emitters, but I really hate those things! They fall off, it is hard to move the equipment and I don't really need another wire in my cabinet! :-) Thoughts?

Speaking of the nevo connect:

1) Where is the generally accepted place to put it? Does everyone just put it on the top of the equipment stack in the cabinet? I know it has very strong IR blasters out the front, but I was wondering how hidden it can be, or if I should try to maintain line of sight to the front of my equipment.

2) Also I was wondering if the Q50 still sends out IR when using a nevo connect or is it shut off?

Thanks for the wonderful forum! There is a wealth of info here!

Hi,

The only way to do what you want to do is by using the NC-50.

If you use Xantech emitters then you can purchase emitter covers to hold the emitter in place. Other brand may also have this option.

The best place is as far away from electrical "noise" as possible. Depending on your layout, that may be in the bottom or the top of the cabinet, possibly in the cupboard next to the equipment.

You will need to create two TiVo devices. Call them different names like TiVo 1 and TiVo 2. Then put them on different port numbers.

As for the IR from the Q50.
If you do not select a port number then the IR will emit from the Q50.

syd is exactly right with all the info on the NC50. It's the best, and the right, way to go. The way to keep the IR emitters on its rubbing alcohol and a hot glue gun. Clean your sources, peel the sticky tape off all the IR bugs, and clean them too, and then add a small dab of hot glue. Works every time, is rasy to get off, if need be, and will not fall off. I've been doing it for years now.

Thanks for the replies! Your hot glue idea sounds much better than an idea I heard this week... super glue! I wasn't about to do that!!!

One last clarification on the Nevo Connect. So if want the Q50 to continue to send IR to my TV (which is obviously out of the line of sight for the Connect module that is in the cabinet) I should just not check anything in the Nevo Connect setup for that device and the Q50 will continue to send IR to it? This makes sense, I just want to make sure I have it right.

Thanks!

I have idea about the nevo remotes and its software. But if they do have setup codes, in UEI/OFA remotes like the urc-6820, 8820, and 10820 which has preset codes for tivo remote addresses 1-4, they're:

Address #1- SAT 1443 or PVR 0740
Address #2- SAT 1444 or PVR 0745
Address #3- SAT 1538 or PVR 1239
Address #4- SAT 1539 or PVR 1240

rudyo,

That is correct. By not selecting anything the codes will come from the remote.

The most common mistake is that "front" is selected. This will send the IR through the front of the NC-50.

You can enter a device code when adding a IR device in the programming software. So the correct device code would be S1443, S1444, S1538, S1539 or V0740, V0745, V1239, V1240...

I got those codes to work with different addresses for each tivo, but I still have an issue.
The remote address in the systems and information screen on the tivos is automatically reset to 0 if a regular tivo remote is used, or one that is not set to the custom address.

So if someone in my family grabs one of the other remotes and goes into that screen, the "custom" address will be reset. This would mess up my Q50 config. Tivo makes it WAY too easy to reset this address...
So I went ahead and decided to use IR blasters to each tivo and this way i won't have to worry about it.

On the tivo peanut remote, the DV1/DV2 switch does not mean Address1/Address2 switch, each side of the switch comes set to zero address. Each side of the switch has to be programmed to an alternate address.

Once the remote addresses are set, there really isn't any reason to go to INFO screen, ever.
