Hello all.

I've tried to gather some info on the new Q50 from mynevo.com, but to not much of info there...

I'm wondering if the Q50 will work with the european frequency or if it is a US only product.

Also, is it Z-wave all the way, or is Z-wave just used for communicating with the nevo bridges?

I would love to be able to control Z-Wave dimmers/light switches and the likes directly from a Q50.

Hope anyone can shed some light.

Best regards
TommyE

As far as I know, the Zwave system should work in Europe. There is a specific frequency you can choose within NevoStudioPro for Europe which is 868.42 Mhz, which works between the NevoQ50 and the new NevoConnect extender.

The NevoQ50 will not work with other native Zwave devices (lighting, etc) at this time. Possibly in the near future with a firmware update.

The NevoQ50 appears to support both frequencies, but the NevoConnect device is either a US or a Europe freq device. I got my NevoQ50 and NevoConnect from USA, much cheaoer than UK but since the NevoConnect uses the US freq, I can't use European Z-wave devices. Certainly something to watch out for if you are contemplating buying from the US.

I already have a load of X10 light controls, and an old IR7243 Infra-Red to X10 converter, so am currently experimenting with control of X10 lights this way. I have created a test config, but not tried it out yet. X10 would have advantages over Z-wave, not just because X-10 is cheaper, but because (in UK) you can only get 3-pin plug style Z-wave light and appliance controllers at the moment, so far as I have been able to find out. With X10, you can get those, plus in-socket controllers, plus DIN-fitting controllers, so much more flexibility for installs.

Hopefully, Q50 will support Zwave lighting soon, and someone will produce alternative (and hopefuilly cheaper) Z-wave controllers.

Hope this helps.

As far as I know, there are different versions of a NevoConnect and NevoQ50 for each region (US and EU) and they will only be able to talk to each other if they are from the same region. As a side note, I have never heard of a Z-Wave enabled device which can work in both regions due to the different frequency bands used, keep in mind the hardware needs to be tuned for each region and I could not find a solution that supports both frequencies on Z-Wave website ( http://www.z-wavealliance.org/ ).

When you set up the Nevo connect it actually asks you the region you are in. It has been a while so I don't remember the options there, but I seem to remember choosing North America, which leads me to believe there was a choice for Europe.
I long for a better world. One in which a chickens motives will not be questioned when mearly crossing the road.

I can confirm (from bitter personal experience) that a US version Q50 cannot communicate with a European NevoConnect NC-50.
Although there is a tab in NevoStudio Pro to set the default product region of the Q50, this does actually change the Z wave frequency and when trying to download a configuration which includes a Euro NevoConnect a frequency mismatch warning is displayed and the download stops.

Hi,

Please check your local laws regarding any RF transmissions.

You will probably find that the US Z-Wave freq is illegal in every other country, the same goes for any of the regions. Also the freq chosen is designed to work in your region and a product purchased elsewhere (even if they are matched) may not work for you as something else may interfere with it.

E.G Using a US unit in Europe may open your neighbor’s garage or their baby monitor may stop your z-wave network from working.
