To me, it was purely ergonomics: I like the way the Nevo felt in my hand as compared to my Pronto. I miss the longer battery life provided by the RF of the Pronto, but that's about it....but it IS a pretty big difference. The Pronto, however, had similar battery life issues in its infancy that were corrected by firmware updates. UEI seems to have begun this process BUT WiFi is ALWAYS a battery hog, so it will never equal out. If I didn't require RF/WiFI to control my components, it would be the Nevo hands down. And *IF* there were a choice of Nevo models with RF or WiFi, I'd grab the RF model and never look back.

That's my .02

Chris,

For a client who has no interest in mp3 wi-fi, the battery life should be significantly longer. Without wi-fi, I am on a 3-4 day recharge schedule.

hey ckelly, i thought i had pretty much settled on the Nevo after reading your input the other day. and fortunately i was able to find a local dealer(toronto, on), so i went right down to "feel it up". i was a little disappointed. it didt have the same "spacey" shine and i found it was trying really hard to be a one hander but wasnt ergonomic enough or rounded enough to feel really comfortable. i also found the scroll wheel on the right side quite awkward, i think mostly due to the fact i'm left handed though. aswell i didnt like the feel of the centre "ok" button, it felt hard to press without also pushing one the directional buttons immediatly surrounding it. furthermore (sorry this getting long, i do actually like the product, lol ) i wasnt crazy about the shape of it when looking at its face, the way its smaller at the bottom getting wider to the top. i can see the ergonomic logic, but again i just didnt love the look.... on most sites i have seen i dont think i saw anything other then anglle shots, most sitting on its VERY cool looking cradle.

the TSU7000 on the other hand surprised me as i expected it to be very cumbersome and awkward to hold one handed, where in fact it is very light and my thumb was able to reach the far side of the screen while holding it single handed. i also liked the overall look of the pronto better than the Nevo, it did have a nice shine to the casing and when holding it my hand it just seemed to have more WOW factor. and needless to say i like the simplicity of the RF extender over setting up a Wireless network in my home.

what i dont want is to find myself with the Pronto and just reaching for my PVR remote or whatever out of convenience in not wanting to mess arond with a sophisticated, somewhat fragile, less ergonomic device, ie:half asleep on the couch, whatever. as i said before in reference to the nevo i'm quite intimidated about the programming factor -and much more so the pronto!

then theres the price issue. in canada the pronto goes for $1300 - $1500 bones, the nevo around $1k. however down there, i see the pronto anywhee from $550 - $900 and the Nevo consistantly $799. also i soke with a rep from philips who said if i order from the US the manufacturers warranty drops to 3mo from 1yr. but i just have this mental block with spending over $1K on a remote!!

this has to be the toughest "toy" decision i've ever had to make!! lol.

Sounds like the Pronto was built for you. I'm left handed too, so I'm not a big fan of the scroll button either. Your hands do find a way to avoid it after a few days the programming also allows for switching the scroll function over to some of the other hard buttons which is much nicer (for me). Don't feel guilty about your choice pick what's the best thing for you, they are both great remotes and either will be your best friend a month from now.

As far as the programming goes, you can download the pronto's software and play with it from this website. One of the best thing about the pronto is that other users have posted their finished & polished files and let you download them yourself. It's a great way to get started until you're ready to adjust it yourself. I do anesthesia for a living, so I certainly don't use a PC professionally. It DID take some time, but I've found there to be nothing more rewarding (I guess it's my Rubik's cube). Balking at the price I understand too, it feels practically sinful to spend so much on such a product but once you're over the hump, you never look back.

yeah it does sound that way doesnt it? funny thing is i realized it more so after reading my post over! lol.

the way i justify the price to myself is the average life of most of my electronics is a few years and the average price being about $1k. so why not?? it really does feel sinful though, i've tried to get a couple buddies at work to help me with the decision, as soon as they see the price, they lok at me lke "you're spending WHAT on a CLICKER??? i got mine free with my TV!!!". people just dont get it. lol
