I have read somewhere in the past the newer versions of the firmware for the DSM320 did not work well with the Nevo. Maybe that is already fixed in the 2.0 Nevo firmware. Do you have the latest firmware in both?
One big difference between the ziova and most others (like the dsm320) are the supported files. I like the WMV (video) en ISO support. The ziova also supports HD resolutions and has HDMI (i want to buy a full hd screen later this year).
Did you also test the DSM320 with some different video files? What are the results?

Hey rko

What a coincedence: I'm Dutch too. Live in Canada now but still go to Holland for work. I've been watching the DP-1600 news on mpcclub.com with interest. I really liked the look of the Ziova but upnp control is a must for me and I have found on their forum that it is a planned firmware upgrade (since 2005) but has been put on the back-burner to improve stability first. I currently only want to use a system to access music without the tv on and Sonos would be a great choice but I figured the Nevo with a upnp control device would work as well, with less expense and give me a single remote to boot!

Video would only be something I would look at in the future and would be a bonus so I don't have a need to access shares or handle iso right now. Subtitles aren't an issue for me. Maybe the DP 1600 will get that added in a firmware upgrade. Now I just need to find out if the 1600 can handle NTSC and 110V...

I looked at the DS 320 too but it is a little old now and I also read some reports that it wasn't ideal with the Nevo. I really need a system that works perfectly, allows full hook up with playlists, album art, time remaining etc. with few hitches... my wife will kill me if everything requires a reset once a week to make it work! The Roku will do fine for the moment (unless you have some bad reports) and once the DP1600 and Z500 (and next generation Ziova) get sorted I can always upgrade.

Earforce: any feedback you can give on the way the Nevo works with the 320RD would be great too.

Doei ;-)

Thats the big difference between you and me, you are looking for mainly audio device and i was looking for mainly video (as i alway can use the Roku for audio).

The Roku works but there are some bad things.
The Nevo must not go to sleep or the music will stop after the playing track (maybe this is also the case with other players but i have only the Roku at this time). Seems it only can accept 1 track to play using uPnP. When the Nevo is not sleeping it will instruct the Roku to play the next song when needed. The repeat and random options do not work.
It is important to set the right power options in the Nevo. I use 'Turn off Never' if on AC Power. On battery 15minutes. And i always use the docking when i don't use it for some minutes.

Of course on the Nevo, on the DSM I actually don´t know. Bought it at ebay (a used one) to have a device to test the Nevo with.

Not yet, but I will do (also because I already have one of the full HD devices...).
I´m also mostly music-interested, but of course I want to use all possible funcions. So I will test and tell...

great questions kitsboy, and thanks alot for the help
rkotemp!

i'm still having a hard time understanding what the huge
appeal is to using the nevo as a server? i can see not
turning on the TV is an advantage. and i suppose if you
want to walk around the house and select songs from your
PC... but whats the point? you have to have the PC hooked
to your reciever, so if you're on the other side of the
house, this means you would have to have speakers running
from your reciever all over your home... and i've never
liked that idea.

i must be missing something.

The real appeal comes when you're HTPC/Amp etc... are out of the way in another part of the house and you just have in-wall/in-ceiling speakers. The Nevo isn't the actual Server, it's just the remote control...
