Does this remote have RF capability? If not, how would one control a rack full of equipment hidden in a media closet?

The Nevo SL has an optional product named NevoLink which provides an Ethernet interface to Infrared emitters which can then be placed on each component needing to be controlled. If you have a wireless 802.11a/b/g network setup then you are all set to go. If not, just add a wireless bridge to the back of the NevoLink and you have a WiFi (RF) capable remote.

Another option is to use an infrared receiver below your display device which is then hooked up to an infrared connecting block in an equipment rack which then has the emitters attached to the components. A number brands out there such as Xantech, Niles and others provide very reliable products. Make sure that if you have a plasma display that you use a plasma friendly IR receiver.

Just to clarify a single NevoLink can control several components in a Media closet. It is not necessary to have a NevoLink per component as long as they are in the same closet.

Thanks but I'm still confused. I have a Wireless-G Broadband Router connected to my main PC where my music and pictures are stored. Additionally, I have a rack full of equipment in a hidden closet at a seperate part of the house. So where would the NevoLink be placed (i.e., connected to my Broadband router, PC, or in with my equipment rack)? I just can't visualize how this will work.

I have a habit of confusing people. Gotta stop that!

The NevoLink would be placed in your equipment rack and you will need a way of physically connecting it to your existing wireless network router or just connect a wireless bridge to the back of the NevoLink in order to connect it back to the router. You can then control all of your a/v equipment plus have the ability to control media content on your PC.

You will also need to connect your PC's audio output to the A/V amplifier or use a device such as a D-Link DSM-320 or Roku Soundbridge to act as a media player that is networked to the PC.

Thanks for the clarification. I already have a Roku Soundbridge accessing hooked up to the house sound system. I just can't select specific songs since the Roku model I have does not have video out, so I always have to walk up and open the equipment closet to select the songs. That's why I'm looking at the NevoSL.

Now if I can only figure out how to "connect a wireless bridge to the back of the NevoLink in order to connect it back to the router" since I can't physically connect it to my wireless network router (too far apart).

Joe,

The NevoLink will plug into any wired router, via RJ-45 cable. The NevoLink itself is not a wireless device but it does provide wireless access from the Nevo SL to your equipment, if you understand that bit.

Karmann was saying that since wired access is what you need and your NevoLink will be very far away from your router, you can plug the NevoLink into a Wireless Bridge, also called a WET device, which simply transmits data back to your wireless network or wireless access point.

This will put the NevoLink onto your network and provide the wi-fi control you want for equipment behind cabinet doors or similar.

Hope this make sense. Happy Turkey Day!!

Thank you. I understand now. All these network terminologies and products are confusing to me (ie., bridge, router, access point, adapter etc.).

The next question is: would it make a lot of difference to get a WET with 11b or 11g as far as a wireless bridge is concerned for the NevoLink? I can get a WET11B for about $50 while 11g for about $150.

Thanks again.

The Nevo works only off 802.11b so the 802.11g would be over buying for this purpose.
