Most SONY cd players have toggle
power. By asking "Did you power on the device by putting
a CD in? " will work much better than telling eveyrone
in the house to power up first.

All the Sony CD players I have used have discreet on and off commands. Many brands of CD or DVD that have no discreets will power up with a play command. I try to stay away from products without discreets.

As far as warmup, why do you need a delay while the projector warms up? Just turn it on first and then the other components. At least you can watch the pretty lights til the picture comes on.

Lack of tracking.. discrets... thats the work around.

Hi All,

Major newbie here in terms of remotes, so call me stupid if ya want...

* waits for the chorus of 'your stupid' *

Discreets? --- codes that can be used to perform a function on a device that is different then the normal codes (ie: a discreet code to power on and discreet code to power off, instead of a single code to toggle power on/off) ?

if so, where can i find discreets for various devices?

What type of remote are you using? Do you have a Nevo? Sometimes discretes are on the original remote, sometimes they're in a database in the software for a programmable remote, sometimes you get lucky and find them here on this website, sometimes they are on a manufacturer's website (hitachi plasmas are one that I can think of). Oh, btw, discretes are codes that perform one function only, not a toggle code or scroll through inputs type. No matter how many times in a row you hit a button with descretes, ie power on, the device only does one thing.
It's not just a hobby, it's an obsession...

thats what i thought...hence the power on and power off instead of toggling power

So i need to find out if my tv has discreets for input selection, as at present i have to press 'input' then scroll up/down and 'enter' to select...not ideal if i want to select different inputs for different devices through the nevo.

TV is a LG 32" HD TV...cant remember model code (X28XR or summat), have to check when i get home

Thanks for the advice :)
