I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to
use nevomedia server/player in conjuntion with
an Apple Airport Express. I would love to be
able to control my itunes or just stream my music
to my home stereo and control it with the NevoSL.
Hi rkdiddy,
The nevomedia server is a upnp server. It follows the Universal Plug N Play standard. It will also need a upnp renderer such as Dlink DSM-320 to stream music to. I am afraid iTunes or Apple Airport Express do not follow this standard. If you already have Apple computer and Airport Express, you will not be able to control the music with Nevo-SL. You will have to invest in DSM-320 or DSM-120 (if your requirement is only to stream Music) which can be connected to your Stereo System. You will also need a upnp music server such as TwonkyVision on your Apple Computer. TwonkeyVision is available for Windows as well as Mac. This combination should let you control the music with NEVO-SL.
If you have not bought NEVO-SL already, and your requirement is to be able to stream songs on your computer to your stereo, you could consider an option of adding Roku M-500. This will work with iTunes out-of-the-box. Added advantage would be that Roku also works with upnp music servers (It is a upnp device itself). So it will work with TwonkyVision on Mac as well as any other upnp server on some other Windows machine also.
One word of caution though. Although all these pieces of hardware and software seemingly follow the upnp standard, not every combination of hardware and software will work. I myself have Windows and Mac machines, at least 4 to 5 different upnp software servers (Nevo media server, Windows Media Connect, D-Link media server, TwonkyVison etc etc), a DSM-320 and a Roku M-500. But only certain combinations work. It will be good idea for you to keep reading the discussions on this forum for a long period before you make up your mind.
