icutfc,

I was not calling you a liar and I don't quite understand your reply. But never the less. Interesting to see your install and also an impressive undertaking. Is this a private system or for a client, and do you utilise the Media server functionality, and have you had any issues with this? Also, it must be a large place to need so many access points.

Just passing, Cheers for your comments. I have a similar arrangement icutfc and no one has been able to explain the CH / SSID set-up for best performance. I am going to put some of your advice into practice. Cheers

Marc,

Cheers back to you. Hope it all works out for you. I have something similar to this setup (but only 2 WAPs) working fine. The only area which I’ve communicated with the end-user as a non-reliable area in the house, is the transition area between the two WAPs which by placing the WAPs in specific locations is in the hallway and Nevo will not be used there.

Let us know how it goes…

JustPassing,

Thanks for the advice. A few thing were lost in translation. I will try to be be more specific.

1 Yes. 192.168.1.100. Is this the DHCP IP range starting point. I'm not using the routers default setting, the IP address range is set to "25" so my range is 192.168.1.100 ~ 124. (more on this later)

2 With that said I don't think there is a high probability of IP collision. This is a good size new home...with all the work going on (change orders for every trade) the orignal configuration was totally unreliable. I finally realized my headaches in (1.0) were cause by constant power failures. Breakers being switched on and off at different intervals would freeze my links. Out of habit, I now set my Link's above the IP range.

3 I KNOW! :) I have no idea why the NEVO SL responds better to the channels being set the same. I spent (2 weeks) Changing channels... If you notice the WAP's had different channel settings like a normal system. My laptops worked like a champ, My NEVO's were chumps.

4 "1.You can not have a mixture of different Nevo versions in a network. All should be 1.2"
This is very possible in this set up. I could have overlooked the update process and updated 4 of the five. I will check this out. Than You.

Marc,

I'm sorry. I'm a dope. I write this stuff at 1am it helps me go to sleep.

Nevo 1.2 has problems with Network Adapters page 7 0f 60. So VoIP and VPN's cause some minor irritations for now. I've seen the beta version of the next update and it's should take care of this problem.

This project is for a client, and I don't utilize the Media server function for this project. They love XM and local radio. "Also, it must be a large place to need so many access points" Good size home...My favorite is the 2,100sf private deck that overlooks the bay.

I'm using an Apple Airport Express (802.11g/WPA2) ... I can get the NevoSL to connect fine. However to actually link up with a media zone takes FOREVER! I see the expected length is about 5 seconds ... Mine takes about 5 minutes. Once it's up, the connection is pretty flakey.

I'm loathe to change my access point because I use it religiously with my PowerBook G4, and prefer the convenience of administration through the laptop in addition to the superior security measures employed within the Airport. I'm also loathe to add an additional access point specifically for the NevoSL... but it would be nice to get this thing running to its full potential....

Any thoughts? Anyone having great luck with the Airport Express?

Check the UEI suggested settings for WAPs. I have heard most folks with the best success are using a dedicated wap for the Nevo. Setting doc is on my site.
