I'm sorry but i can't resist...I love to hate,no love/hate this P.O.Y. I monitor this forum to see what you (the enthusiast) thought of this product. As a listed dealer, CI, and consumer - this product is not ready for the general public. UEI knows this. That's why they read this forum too. That's why you won't see this on a BB shelf. That's why they sell it CI Only. We are the missing link. You can't create without inspiration. With every complement or complaint this product gets better. They're listening. What Do You Think?

"After sleeping on it, I had to back pedal a bit on my comments. I'm a dealer (whatever that means) that believes that with all of the problems this remote has... It has the most potential of any remote I've sold, owned, used, or seen. EVER! I don't recommend this product to anyone that thinks this is a quick solution for any project. I do recommend this product for those of you that feel comfortable with going back (more than once) to a project to work through the bugs. Regardless if its belongs to you or a client. "

Do a search in this forum for my name.

I agree 100% that it has no bussiness in the CI world. Its needs for tweaks and constant issues make it unsuitable for a "solution".

This remote is for hobbiest who want to, and have the time to. futz with it.

I think having it sold at the distributor is a enourmous marketing mistake. Too bad about that exclusivity contract.

I say it again and again. Sell it to the enthusiest. They will do the debugging. Pros... we don't have the time and our reputations are important to us. We can't leave a questionable product in charge of our CUSTOM DESIGNED SYETEMS!

Okay..I think I am understanding what you were saying in the other thread Springs. Sometimes it is hard to differentiate posts as being just "antii" a piece of equipment versus truly having legitimate issues with the hardware/software.

So let me ask you, what would you recommend, as a CI, to someone who does not mind tweaking a system once in a while? Would you recommend the Pronto NG over the Nevo?

I don't feel the media abilites of the Nevo merit messing with it. All it can play back is MP3s. My Music and many of my customers use FLAC. Even more have AAC.. opps nevo doesn't like that either. There attitude when I tried to get info about them was just not tolerable. They said sorry but that does not make the product any better. It simply removed my PERSONAL objections from the reasons I don't use the product.

Yeah I would take a Pronto anyday over a Nevo.

RF extender in the 6500 raised the Pronto from close to a yeah its going to work more often then not.

Pronto is heavily supported at this site and codes are avaiable. You can get the editor and mess with it all you want. Nevo is dealer only and dealers who have really tried it out ... well that is there thing.

I'll admit that when the product first came out, I had some issues with the WiFi, but those disappeared a long time ago with firmware releases. I knew that there would be some growing pains, but after they worked themselves out, it's been pretty smooth sailing.

I hate to say it, but I think that a lot of guys out there who post negative things regarding the WiFi aspects of the product just don't know what they are doing (at least, after the 1.2 firmware release came out). I mean, with WiFi, if it's not working perfect, I just change a setting to accomodate for a different environment (for those of you who had CTS set to something else other than "Auto", you know what I'm talking about), but I don't know how many times I've had to try to trouble shoot the RF system in other remotes. It use to kill me when I'd set up a system and then sometimes the Pronto commands (yes, even with the new Pronto RF system) would fail about one out of every five tries. I felt like an idiot trying to position the antenna a little differently, etc. There is no other device in the world I'd want to throw across the room more then an RF remote that isn't working well (Samsung DLPs that don't support discrete codes come a close second, but I doubt I could throw one anyhow). There are no real settings you can alter for simple RF control. Yes for some customers it works very well, but for the customers that it's not working for, it's pain in the you know what and I always end up getting a call.

I have been programming NevoSLs since they first came out and after I got through the initial WiFi issues (which at least for me, they are completely gone), they have served me very well.

Also, regarding the issue of letting enthusiasts get their hands on the remote, even though that may sound good to some of you, but this is my bread and butter and I don't want my customer challenging me on pricing. As a professional, I can't tell you how happy I am that they chose this route.

I see other custom installers that sell, program and service customers that have the Pronto line of remotes...yet those are not restricted to distribution only through professional installers....why should the Nevo be restricted as well? There are people that will contine to work through professionals such as yourself yet there are those of us who will always want to take on the challenge ourselves of programming these remotes.

I guess I don't see what kind of threat it woudl be to your business base. And believe me...I am a believer in guys like you...but I hate seeing nice technology that is not that complicated turned unnecessarily into a vertical hardware market.

ra-dog, ask a few question questions before you start passing judgment my friend. You say, "I had some issues with the WiFi, but those disappeared a long time ago with firmware releases." Are you installing single SL & LINK systems?

I think I've installed a NevoSL in practically every way you can. IR only, single NevoSL with a single NevoLink, multi-NevoSLs with multi-NevoLinks, Media Manager, etc.

Sure, when I had some issues with the NevoSL in the beginning, I ended up using the remote for IR purposes only (no WiFi) for the customers that wanted the NevoSL.

But since then, the NevoSL is the first remote that we suggest to customers because the WiFi issues have been worked out and we know how to fully implement them. We still offer the Pronto, T3 and MX-3000 offerings because our guys still know how to program them, but we are doing much less business with those remotes just because the NevoSL solution has worked so well for us.

I'm not saying this remote is for everyone, but it has proven itself to us and has done very well.

Read my last entry in Nevo in Aus a dud. Now that Nevo have taken an interest in us Here. I fully agree. A pioneering remote showing the potential it has always had, but hadn't had the chance to show. Also cheers to UEI for getting their asses over here.
