yes thankyou very much!!!

Daniels and Dave D'Arches set ups are quite interesting... some neat concepts with having things almost completely activity based. it will take a little thought to see the logic in some things... like why have separate power pages? why not just have a power button on the 1st page of each device? i do actually have power buttons for all my devices programmed to the hard keys just below the TS on my 1st 2 home pages along with my activity macro's if i want to power up a device before switching to it. from what i can see instead of having a power button on a given device page you have a jump to power page button. does this not create needless page jumping?

i'm not trying to be AT ALL critical as i know both of you have FAR more experience than i do. i really just want to know the logic... as frankly it seems kinda neat and would set up mine like that if its somehow more functional!

Nicely done, Daniel! Wow, another platform. Rc continues to be the best.

Thanks and regards...Dave

Stealth,

Thanks for the nice comments. I really think an Activity-Based approach is really the ONLY approach. In fact, if you think about it, the Nevo encourages you to create it in that manner.

The best of an Activity-Based approach:

1) It features a "dumbed-down" approach for most folks. All you need to know is Go Home and choose an Activity. Provided your equipment has the right discrete codes and/or some slick workarounds, it will work well for almost any user. Only downside for the programmer is a pride issue. The remote looks so simple there is not much fun playing with it. But, if you are trying to reach a wide variety of audiences, (clients, spouse, babysitter, guests, significant-others, etc.) it is often the desired outcome.

2) That being said, there is something for the theater enthusiast. The “Device” control approach was simply borrowed from the Pronto, which allows you to jump to any Device, without firing macros and play with your gear. With this “backdoor-approach”, you can jump to any Device and scroll through pages easily, to get to functions you might want to change, while in the middle of viewing or listening to anything. Such as: watching a killer DVD and you want to change your receiver DSP “silently”, while in the middle of viewing, things of that nature. Or change the TV aspect ratio based upon the broadcast, etc.

So, the goal of the config is in the eye of the beholder. If you are programming for clients, for a fee, they usually want easy-to-use and reasonably full-featured. If you are programming for yourself, the sky’s the limit. Interestingly enough, sometimes the more difficult programming results in a remote which is very effortless to use, but does not have a heavy “wizzy-factor. Looks like nothing is happening..hehee..but we know better, don’t we?

it actually occured to me after the fact that these types of config would greatly appeal to an end user who is being handed a remote to control their new system -opposed to most of us DIYers here.

i guess i have mine set up in both fashions... activities on the home page, but i also use it as the device style remote you explained above.

again really nice set up man, i havent had a chance to get into yet but i do intend on implementing some of these methods into my config -so thanks again, and thanks for the response. Christian
