I am looking for a remote that can control everything, HT, HTPC, Lighting etc. I have looked around and seen alot of people talk about different remotes. I have seen the Nevo SL and really liked it. If I was to choose between these remotes which one would you choose and why: Nevo SL, MX-3000, Harmony 880/890? Or are there better suggestions out there? I really like the whole touch screen idea. I have also heard alot of people talk about the Pronto remotes. Or if i have some other product please advise as well.

I apologize for my ignorance, my knowledge on these things is well below par. All of your expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

well by reading through the threads here in the Nevo section you will get a many opinions, mostly positive toward the nevo.

i was also lookiong into the 880/890 and the MX3000. the Harmony series are much lower end than the nevo and from what i can see in the harmony threads they are VERY problematic! they are activity based rmeotes which is a little gimick that remebers the "states" of your devices, but again seems to be very sparatic. in fact my friend owns an 880 and after 4months he HATES it!! it has gotten worse and worse as time goes on.

the MX3000 is a TWO HANDED remote. its like holding a video game controler -NO THANKS!

IMO from the extensive homework i did when i started on the same venture as you last a few months ago, i came to the conclusion the best remotes out there are either the Nevo SL and the Pronto for touchscreen, and the MX 850 or MX 950 for hard button remotes. well i just loved the customization and WOW factor of the TS's so went with that. i found a local guy who had both the Nevo and the Pronto. once you see them side by side the NEvo will sell itself. its ergonimics are light years ahead of the pronto as its TS is almost as large as the pronto's but it truly is a one handed remote with a FAR superior hard button layout than the Pronto. the pronto is awkward to operate with one hand, and feels a little heavy and cumbersome to use.
furthermore from what i've read Nevo will be your easiest to program, as the Pronto seems to be a bit of a challenge. i had no previous programming expereince and found Nevostudio a breeze to catch on to!

-all the best with you're decision -for the record i have yet to tt someone who regrets purchasing the Nevo. ttyl, Christian

Mostly positive.. not when I am around :)

2 Handed remote... I said those eact same words in my inital... "its like a friggen game controler."

Yeah there are some unhappy people with NEOV. There are som e happy ones too. But the main thing is this... IT IS A DIY'ERS REMOTE SOLD TO CUSTOM INSTALLERS.

Stealth... I nominate you to lead the compaign to get this device where it belongs. IN the mass market right next to Windows Media PCs.

I've owned a:-
Pronto 2000
Pronto 3000
Harmony 550
and now a nevo, and I can honestly the nevo is by far the best of the bunch, even after only 2 days of playing with it!!!

It's really difficult as i suspect if you post in the Pronto forum, you'll get ppl saying the Pronto is the best, so most of any advice you recieve will be opinions.

My 2 cents tho,

The 1000, and 2000 are the best from the Pronto series because the build quality dropped with the 3000 and 7000, the buttons have no tactile feel when you push them, the overall hard button layout is awkward to use, and ProntoEdit whilst very custmisable is also very basic and sometimes long winded to use.

The Harmony remotes are problematic to say the least, whilst very clever they're sooo frustrating, mainly because you have to use an online web tool to program them which in my experience takes you round in circles, and like Stealth said they remember the state of all your devices, so if for example you manually turn the TV on at the TV itself when you use the remote to turn your 'activity' for watching TV on it will turn the TV off! then you have to answer an annoying wized to get it turned on.

Lastly the Nevo, I got mine 2 days ago, in summary
NevoStudio is farmore comprehensive than ProntoEdit
Build quality is immense, feels great in your hand
Superior button layout (close to perfect)
Very nice tactile feel when pushing buttons

none of this even mentions the uPnP functions for selecting your music/albums on the remote.

Ppl don't seem to talk much about the Marantz remotes, I played with one of the at an installers, and have to say they're much much better than the Prontos, they answer the build qaulity, and tactile feel.

The best advice is try to see them all at local installers, I'm 100% confident if you do you'll see the Nevo knocks the socks off all the others, this from a former Pronto maniac, I still can't believe how much better te Nevo is.

I have to say, I was reluctant to switch as well. I was very happy with my Pronto. Now, I will never go back (until something better comes). I still miss the RF but I've gotten used to the IR extender I use now. I chose to skip the NevoLink for the following reasons: battery life (now much less of an issue due to recent firware updates) and reconnection delay (getting closer but no cigar)

LOL yup i meant you!! LOL

Stealth... I nominate you to lead the compaign
to get this device where it belongs. IN the mass
market right next to Windows Media PCs.

i'd be glad to spear head that campaign!!! LOL

only problem is every Joe Dough will just have to have one cuz it looks so cool and will have NO idea WTF he is doing when it comes to programming! meaning Nevo would have to throw out some big $$$ for support!!

unless they work some kind of referal angle, making it clear when making the sale that if you dont have alot of PC/HT knowledge that you are best to have it professionally programmed...? inevitably sales would increase 10 fold, creating alot more business for professional programmers. it sounds nice but knowing sales people that just wont happen! "oh yeah miss granny it'll operate everything right out of the box, now will that be cash or charge?" ....granny notices NO REFUNDS sign as exiting store. lol
