I am using a front projector in my home theater and I want to run a IR blaster from the Nevolink to the projector. The cords on the IR blasters are a little too short (I need about 1' more). I had sent an email to Nevo technical support several weeks ago but I have got no response. Can I get an extension? Will other brands IR blasters work? Can I cut the wire and splice more wire to it?

extending does not work well if at all, nevo recommends running a catv so that you can put another nevolink there which is if you ask me stupid.

I'd try a splicing solution. I've had success before on other models.

I have not personally extended one. Maybe others have but you should be able to extend 10'-20' to catch your projector, without a lot of repercussions. Most IR emitters will allow extending. Either cut, splice and solder, with a similar grade of wire or use a miniplug extender wire available at Radio Shack, etc. Just make sure if you use the radio shack "male-female" extender you use what the nevo wants. If the IR mini plug on the Nevo is mono (one black ring on the mini plug) you should use the same. If two black rings, it is a stereo plug and you need to buy the appropriate extender.

Be interested in your feedback if you do the extending, Joel. You can help us all with your feedback.

I tried to cut and splice and I cannot get it to work. I used pinch type connectors to connect. There are two bundles of very small wires inside the insulator. It does not appear that the two sets of wires inside the main insulator have any insulator covering them. It is a very unique wire from anything I have seen. I actually cut a 2' section of the same wire from one of my other blasters since I did not need all of them. Should I try to solder the connections?

Joel,

How about trying a male to female extension cable and see if that works? Just make sure you observe the mono or stereo plugs. I don't recall what is on the emiters. Mono is my guess, which is just one black insulator on the plug.

Joel,
If the wire design is the same, here's what it did: Once cut, I found inside the covering was raw wire surrounding a second insuated wire. I pulled the raw wires aside, stripped the second wire and went ahead and tied it (twisted it) together with the other end of the wire and did the same (twitsted again) with the raw wires. I insulated them separately (with electrical tape) and then bundled them together (again with electrcal tape) to complete the splice. Worked fine...again it was not a nevo product though. I wouldn't think it'd be that different however.

This cable has a red conductor in the sleve? I dont know what it is but after two days...... I shot my se.. Oh, never mind. Run a CAT5 cable use a xantech or any other IR emitter cut and splice the 1/8 mini into your CAT5 cable. Get a 1/8 adaptor for the link at radio shack.(((Do to the size of the adaptor you will lose one of your outs.))) I got 60' no problems. If someone knows how to splice the nevo cable let us know.

I purchased a 6' mono audio extension cable from Radio Shack. It seems to work fine so far. The cable I purchased had mini plugs (1/8' or 3.5mm) on each end and the Nevo uses the sub-mini (3/32" or 2.5mm) plug so I had to purchase two adapters to go from mini to sub-mini. I'll let you know if I have any issues as I use it more.
