i'm sure its in the manual somewhere but thought i would ask here as i seem to be getting varying memory capacity. i've loaded projects onto it that are over 12,000k in size. but for the last couple nights it wont allow me to load my project which shows at just over 8000k. the error message indicates "this file is too large, reduce size and try again". the night before last it actually took on the 3rd attempt, but again as of the last 2 nights it wont take -and the only thing i changed was a couple backgrounds that i have used before without any problem.... ?

any suggestions? i've tried resetting the unit before plugging it into the USB but that made no diff.

thnx guys - Christian

All I could find is 32MB RAM / 64MB SDRAM. No mention of FLASH.

Yes, plus you have to have certain amounts of memory for the software, firmware, etc.

Stealth - I think if anyone has a file this size, (8MB or larger) you need to figure out how to lessen the size of some graphics. Have you tried creating .png versions of your graphic pictures? They are usually better quality and much smaller than any other picture formats, to my knowledge.

PNG is a lossless vector graphic format that supports things like transperancy, it was designed to replace GIF formats. It will give you a higher quality image but will not compress or save you as much in file size as a JPEG will. JPEG's will allways give you the smallest file size but can at times give you artifacts in the image. For comparison I took a standard BMP image I have on my computer and saved it as a PNG and a JPG using photoshop.. here were my results:
original BMP=318kb
saved as PNG=137kb
saved as JPG=35kb

So how do you change the format -just by simply replacing the end of the name of a file with .png, .jpeg, .gif.... or whatever?

i cant check from work -does anyone know what format the pronto Backgrounds are in? they seem to bog down my memory the most!

Open the original file using Windows Paint under Start/Programs/accesories, resave it as whatever name you would like then on the secondary drop down box below the file name which is "Save as type" select what ever file format you would like.

PNG uses a lossless compression format, it will compress the file to a point without causing a degradation in viewing quality. It also supports transparency so if the Nevo supports PNG that would be far more preferable than BMP. If you can get away with it jpegs would save you even more space, but depending on the graphic you may see some deterioration.
