i thought this topic deserved a thread of its own...

for those who havent noticed there is a new section at mynevo.com where you can send in your configuration and view others. they claim they will update new info every 2weeks or so, with new button styles etc...

as of now there is only one very basic configuration, intended for use with the Escient Fireball System. if you dont have that system then this probably wont appeal to you at all.

its nice to see they have something like this set up and hopefully we'll have more goodies to work with in the near future!

my question - and it really exposes my lack of PC knowledge ; ) - it says you have to put your file/configuration in a ZIP folder before sending it in -how do you do that??

Where, I have looked around mynevo.com and can't find that bit. Is it in the dealer login section. I am not a dealer and have no access.

Hi Christian - at last I can help you in return.

One comment though - I did see the request to zip files submitted to mynevo.com, but .nvo files must be binary and do not compress (ie the compressed file is the same size as the original). Anyhow they will probably insist on receiving only zipped files until they notice this.

Assuming you are runnign Windows XP, locate the folder with the .nvo files. Right click the file you want to zip and scroll down to the "Send To" command, another drop down box will appear and one of the options will be "Compressed (zipped) Folder" Select this and a zip file will appear in the same directory as you original .nvo file.

Hope this helps.

Peter.

Hi Stealth,

I wonder how you got to the size of the file you have??? You should try and convert all of the files to .png graphics, instead of any .bmp files you have. They will likely reduce the size of your file considerably.

You also do not need any picture files much larger than .png or .jpg of possibly 75k or so.

I like to work in Paint Shop Pro because it is a lot easier than Photshop. However, the learning curve is still significant in Paint Shop Pro. Occasionally quite maddening.

While I do not have the picture backgrounds you have, my file is only 848k and yours was almost 4mb, when you sent it to me, recently. Likely, you need to process your picture backgrounds via something like Paint Shop Pro and save the files as .png files. This should greatly lessen the size of your config.

My file is 3.2 mb or so. It does run a little sluggish for the first few seconds after wakeup sometimes...is this too big and that's slowing the Nevo down? I only use the standard backgrounds (except for 2) and almost all of my buttons are .png with a handful of .bmp. A little more information:
1. The .bmp files are no larger than a typical .png file.
2. The custom (photo) backgrounds are no larger either. I even changed everypage to the same (standard) background just to see how much differnce it made....no difference in file size at all.

Since the .bmp file sizes are no different from .png why is mine so much bigger...and from time to time slower than it should be?

Dave, you've seen my file, where's the bulky size coming from?

No i imagine you'd have to go through each individual graphic file (backgrounds, buttons, symbols, etc.) that you custom made and save them again in the .png format. I did a couple and didn't find that it diminished the file size at all. The question is, does it speed up the Nevo by shortening processing time?

So any way we can get access to the files?
If you think you can, or think you cant, your right!
