so i was messing about last night and THINK i have found the best way to add backgrounds. i am ALL ears (well i guess eyes) if someone has a better way.

first off i find just sending a pic to nevostudio does not seem top be a viable method. it seems if its a landscape type of shot it will get "squeezed" to fit, distorting the picture, not only that but will take up more memory on the nevo than you need to.

i WAS cropping to 4X6 then resizing to 240 X 295 pixels. well i discovered last night that because of the crop size it was actually ending up sized around 190 X 295 pixels(as i have it set to keep the aspect ratio). so i hadnt noticed as most of my pics are nature shots but the nevo was stretching my pictures to fit.

so i tried all the preset cropping sizes and it seems the closest i could get that it would stay at the right pixels when resized is 8X10.

so then - crop the pic to 8X10 portrait, then resize the pixels (be sure to have it set to preserve the aspect ratio) to 240 X 295. you will end up with 236 X 295, so i doubt anyone could notice any stretching.

as tedious as this process was for the 30 photos i did last night, my backgrounds all look MUCH better.

ok. i've just noticed my file is almost double the size it was before i resized the pics. my file is now 7953kb and it seems a little slower changing pages than before. my individual pictures vary in size from 20kb to 80kb. however i notice the Nevo Backgrounds are the same, sometimes even larger at 113kb.

so how do i remedy this? my pics are JPEG, nevo BG's are PNG. is there a simple process o convert my pics?

i also found the backrounds for the pronto, available to DL here on the site, are pretty cool and seem to fit well on the Nevo.

I use to crop and resize my pictures all the time too and that's why when I went to Nevo training, I asked the trainer what the exact resolution of the background is. He told me that it was 240(w)x280(h).

I'm not sure about you, but since I found out that the NevoStudio software resizes the background, as long as I get the aspect ratio near what 240x280 would be, then my pictures (no matter their size), look stunning. This feature has saved me dozens of hours of work.

Also, I'm not sure why your pages seem like they are loading slower because even though you may put a huge 5 MegaPixel picture in the background, the software not only resizes the image, but also resamples it. I've had a client submit about 15 pictures for me to put into a "gallery" on his remote and all of the pictures were 8 MegaPixels(!). I didn't resize a single one and they fit into the config like a gem.

If you are having issues with the backgrounds loading slow, it's probably because your overall config is just getting too large. Try cutting some of the pages out and then see if that helps.

If you are experiencing slow page loading, try resetting the remote after downloading your configuration. (using reset button on the side) The remote caches pages and when you load a new config, the old pages are still being held which will slow down page flips. You can also speed this up by accessing each page of the new config manually after resetting so that the new pages can be cached all at once rather than each time a new one is seen during use.
