Hi there,

I bought this remote from the States a couple of years ago, and have been using it since then for audio-visual purposes with a lot of success.

I wanted to start using the controller with Z-Wave and here is when my problems have started. I have made sure that I have chosen Europe: 900 Mhz though NevoStudio Pro as the Product Region before downloading the job to the controller, but in the advanced settings of the controller it says Z-Wave ver.: USA. 2.40 though, I don’t know if it is supposed to say Europe instead…

So I have right clicked on the job itself inside NevoStudio Pro and I have seen there is another setting that says "stablish product region", I have clicked on it, it was settled in USA, I have changed it to Europe, but now when I try to download the job to the S70 it gives an error that says Z-Wave Region configuration different from stablished (or something like that, I don't have the remote handy now)

I believe I have read that the region is set via a physical chip and can’t be changed. That is why a remote in the US will only work in the US and one from Europe will only work in Europe etc. The IR and wifi is fine but Z-Wave is not. Would it be possible to open the remote and have this chip changed over for a european one? Can anyone sell this chip?

Thanks in advance,

Your best bet would be to look at a disty or service center near your location. As far as I know, there is no way to change that chip... Well I've never heard of anybody who successfully did it...

Well, that is the problem, there is no authorized reseller for Nevo in Spain, the one on the UEI web site went out of business even before I bought this remote in the USA some 2 or 3 years ago. I have tried contacting another "no official" reseller in Spain, but they have "kindly" hanged up the phone saying I have not bought the remote from them, so they would not be servicing the remote now...

That is why I was hoping I could just buy the chip and some instructions on how to open the remote, as I have found I cannot use Z-Wave when I have already invested on some Z-Wave switches (not cheap) for my home. I guess I will have to start looking for an excuse for my wife.

I was thinking, would the NevoConnect NC-50 or the NevoLink (euro versions this time) help me using Z-Wave?

I mean the US S70 would communicate to a euro NevoConnect or NevoLink and either one of these to the euro Z-Wave devices? I wanted to put my new AV Receiver inside a cabinet and was thinking in buying one of these two soon.

Look what I found, the chip versions used for the different markets are here:
[Link: web1.zen-sys.com]

and entering the EU chip version on google gave me this link:
[Link: parts.digikey.com]

Which I believe would be the part I need to have unsoldered and resoldered in my remote? Does anyone have a picture of the insides of the S70, just to confirm I am on the right track. By the way does anyone have any info how to open the S70 remote? I have seen two screws behind the battery and I would think there are another 2 behind the bottom rubber stands.

So, this is very interesting thread because I have the exact same problem. Did you get your S70 in pieces and change the chip?

That picture of that "chip" is on a small circuit board. It looks to me like all of those parts are surface mounted. I sure hope your de-soldering and re-soldering skills are up to snuff as surface mount parts are a PITA. I think that you are opening up a huge can of worms trying to retrofit that remote! Good luck to you on that! If the board goes in as a complete assembly you might have a better chance.

It will not work.

Only the factory can chage the z-wave region as there are other chips that need to be re-flashed.

I am told that not even UEI can do this.

Here is what I understand on this. You can have a US version Nevo anywhere and will work fine on IR. If you wish to use a NC50 NevoConnect, it must match the RF frequency of the US Nevo and then the NC50 (assumming US) and the Nevo (assumming US) will pair fine together and work fine. However, trying to control native Zwave devices (locally purchased Zwave light switches, etc) in your market, the US frequency Nevo will not likely talk to these devices as your local Zwave devices in country are likely on a different frequency.

It's been quite some time since I started this thread, and although I manage to solder the new EU z-wave chip never said how it went, I tried with my older Q50 to see if it proved successful to then do it in my S70 if it did.

As Sydinstaller thought, it did not work on the Q50 so I did not go any further with the S70, I really thought it was going to work the first time I powered the Q50 as it said it needed to update the firmware:

I then pluged the remote to the computer and it was asking to update the non-existant firmware for the Z-wave:

But then looking in the remote it did install the US firmware again altough the chip is the EU one, so there must be some other chips that need to be reflashed for this mod to work. A real pity as it was a cheap mod:
