I am looking for the discrete code for an Adcom GFA 5300 Amplifier to turn on/off the amp. Please assist if you can.

does that amp have an IR receiver?  doesnt it just have a mechanical push button for on and off?

I don't see anywhere in the manual where it mentions a remote control.

It is mechanical as you mentioned. I was hoping it also was compatible with IR...in this case do I just need to leave it on all of the time?

yep, that is probably the case with this amp.

you could use a smart power strip to kill power to the amp when not in use

I havent used one, but the way I understand them to work, is that you take your main device, such as an A/V receiver, and plug that into the sensing port. When the strip senses that you turned on the A/V receiver, it applies power to the rest of the strip. So you could have the Adcom amp turn on when the A/V receiver turns on, and turn off when the A/V receiver turns off.
