At present I have a MX-810 controlling a Onkyo A/V, Samsung DLP, DEnon DVD, & Directv DVR. I also use a Sonos for my music server. No multi-room, all located in one location (TV in viewing room & everything else in closet.

I have been looking at the SL - the Q50 & S70 are a bit out of my price range. I understand that the SL is EOL but if it works thats what counts.

The SL is fine if your plan is to control everything line of sight.  Don't waste your money with the Nevolink add on, it disconnects all the time and kills batteries. 

The Q50 is a much better remote if using the Nevoconnect RF Base, which will make your system work much better.  If you don't want/need an RF Base, then the SL is a fine remote.

I will need RF since I have A/V, DVD, & DirecTV in closet. Am using the MRF-350 at present. Can any of the Nevo remotes take over the job of the Sonos, and display the album art like it does? If so then I will sell the Sonos and put that money torard the Nevo.

No....the Sonos is a wonderful music streamer, but their proprietary control system is a royal PITA. Aside from the iPod Touch and iPhone, there isn't a controller that can really replace the Sonos controllers' functions.

Just curious.....why are you replacing your current control system? It sounds capable enough.

OK - I admit that its a bit of the "new toy" reason. Don't get me wrong the URC stuff has served me well & worked without a hitch, but the look and reviews of the Nevo has me curious.

The Sonos is awesome with only one flaw - no rf to the receiver. The controller has a volume control but only within the volume already set on the receiver.

I saw a photo of the Nevo remote that had what appeared to be a screen kind of like the Sonos playing music.

It seems the S70 (with wi-fi) could operate IP-controlled music servers if there are widgets designed for them. But I don't believe there is one for Sonos, and Sonos is frustratingly reluctant to open up their system beyond their own controllers. (Personally, I think it's hurting their competitiveness now, as more and more people are using universal remotes and components that won't play along seem kind of 1990s.)

Controlling your volume that way is really not an ideal solution.  It's better to set the Sonos to "Fixed" volume and use the receiver's volume control.  

The Nevo does Squeezebox control pretty well and since it can do UPNP sources and has a web browser it leaves a lot of options open.

That's one of the reasons I said Sonos is slipping competitively. The Squeezebox products openly welcome alternative control, but Sonos has gone out of their way to not accommodate such options. (I think they believe their control interface is what sets them apart.)

I used to use a Roku Soundbridge but went to the Sonos since I could carry around with me and control the music. So Squeezebox would work for me I believe. All my music is on a standalone PC - Thinking about going to a FreeNAS for the music and video.

So lets see:
Sell the Sonos system - the MX-810 - the MRF-350.
Buy a Q50 or S70

Will that give me the use I now have?

I only wish Nevo would had made the S70 look a little nicer. I bought a Q50 and S70 to mess around with, but really the S70 just looks "old" - too much like the SL. If it wasn't for the web browser I don't think I'd really give it another thought over my Pronto

Sorry Tango, not trying to divert the conversation from your original topic, but I am also trying to decide on either Q50, S70, (or potentially a TSU9400). I currently have an RU980 that is no longer able to learn codes, and I always have to find hex codes on the internet for any equipment I buy.

I started playing with the Nevo Studio and the new Pronto edit SW to see how they worked. They both seem manageable with my relatively simple requirements.

However, I get confused by the model numbers, since Nevo seems to totally ignore the fact that Europe has different model numbers than the US and does not provide help along these lines when adding devices to the project.

For example, I need Pioneer LX5090H, Pioneer BDP-LX52, and Pioneer VSX-LX52...quite some trial and error involved in this.

So, all I am trying to say is that you may also want to look at how the SW works as part of your decision making process.

Personally, I do like the design and layout of the Q50, but prefer the larger screen on the S70.

(and yes, if anyone knows what my pioneers correspond to, that would be much appreciated)
