I've given up waiting for NSP to run in my 64-bit Vista machine. But I'm now considering a switch to Windows 7 and wondering in there's any chance NSP runs in it. I'm aware that it's not officially supported on Nevo's end.....but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work.

Has anybody tried NSP with Windows 7 yet?

It will not load up on a 64-bit OS.

I heard NSP 3 will be out 1Q 2010 and have 64 bit.

So, applying the Nevo time-translation algorithm, 1Q 2010≈2Q 2011 or 3Q 2012.....or never...whichever occurs last.

They never bothered to support it on Vista....why expect it on W7?

I thought the last update worked on Vista? It was a year ago or so. I don't think they ever did an update for 64-bit Vista though, if that is what you are saying.

Hi Dave. Yeah, that's what we meant. It runs just fine on 32-bit, but it won't even begin to install on a machine with 64-bit Vista.

I won't begin anew my whole rant about this, but I think it's becoming a serious issue with the Nevo model. Go to any computer store, Best Buy, Costco....every single PC they sell now has a 64-bit operating system. So NSP won't run on new PC laptops, and as we know, it doesn't play nice with Macs.  I know they're a niche player, but you can "niche" yourself right out of existance if you're not careful.

Tried installing on Win7 64-bit...exact same error. Installs fine under Virtual PC and XP mode though.

Can you explain? I recall an "XP Compatibility" mode (didn't make a difference, still wouldn't install in 64-bit Vista), but I guess I don't know what you mean by Virtual PC and XP mode

When running the XP virtual mode you will need to download .net framework 1.1, 1.1servicepack and possibly .net framework 2.

We just did this to make the NuVo software work.

BTW this was running windows 7 64bit.

Okay...that made my ears perk up!  So on a Windows 7 (64-bit) system, I could install and use NSP while running in "XP Virtual Mode," after installing .Net framework 1.1 and the 1.1 servicepak?

That is my understanding.

It made our NuVo software work (not Nevo, yet to test).

I would imagine that Nevo would fall into the same category as it to needs .net framework installed. By default windows 7 does not include these versions.

I will post back when I test it, unless someone else tries it before me.

I'm running NevoStudio Pro under Windows 7 64-bit in "XP Mode". XP Mode requires Virtual PC and a special packaged version of Windows XPSP3 32-bit, both of which are a free download from Microsoft (no additional OS license required). This sets up a virtual machine running XP. The only issue I ran into was that the USB ports under the virtual machine wouldn't see the NevoConnect NC-50 but sees the remote no problem (updates to the remote were without issues).

This was the only way I was able to get NSP running in a Windows 64-bit environment.

You can also use VMWare for your virtual machines but it would require an extra OS license for every virtual machine.
