Nevo has traingin today in MD. Anyone here scheduled to go to the class?

Any new opinions of the remote? Our rep is pressing it pretty hard. Just wondered what others opinions were like now?

Notice that www.mynevo.com is usually just dead. Plus remotecentral has not yet made a forum or file section for them... (not complaining). I was just thinking it doesn't have the userbase yet/ever.

Anyone here going?

Cool looking remote, metadata is cool for the price, haven't seen one in person, haven't seen the software, do they have an IR library?

They have a HUGE library of codes.

Well I got stuck at an install so I missed the class. I stop in around lunch as I need to pick up some stuff for the site. There seemed to be a lot of cars out front... Nobody here was in that class?

Although I didn't attend the class in MD, I went to a Nevo training session up in Northern California a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty cool stuff.

I purchased a unit to play around with before the class and was able to get by since the software was really easy to use. But once the trainer showed me all the cool stuff that the programming software can do, this remote definitely takes it to another level.

I mean, pictures automatically re-size on buttons and backgrounds, and everything is drag and drop (IR commands, backgrounds, buttons, themes(!)). VERY powerful stuff.

The software is extremely easy, but taking the training definitely helps a long way. The trainer is a nice guy and seems to be more knowledgeable than a lot of these other trainers I run into for product trainings (I hate it when they send sales people to talk tech). Even better, lunch is on AVAD.

Ry-dog,

I cant get past that having to have a netowrk thing. I mean really no way to talk directly to the IR uniwithout going throught the Wi-Fi? So now I need an accesspoint and run or a WET at the equipment closet. Added costs get me introuble withthe sales staff.

I wanted to spend more time with the unit but missing the class puts me dead in the water. I muddled through the editor without assistance and I was thinking.. uhh ok. But using the device I didn't like a bunch of things. I loaned the remote to a RTI frined and he didn't get very far and held it for almost all of my demo time. By the time he gave it back all he had to say was... works good with Windows Media Center.

Had zero feed back on mult couch products or zoning the thing. Ohh well.

I have been REAL happy the new TSU7500 so far. The RF has improved to a real useable level. Beng able to move the recevier away from interferance really fixed up some questionable receives.

None of our clients have Media Center. One lady bought it herself and I could not get like 70% of it to work properly. Spent about 6 hours on it and dubbed the unit she bought not ready for prime time. She said she would talk to dell and if she got it going she would email me. If not it goes back to dell. Well its been 30 days and no email...

Springs,

Just give up on the unit. You've done nothing but complain about it since day one. Move on. And I'm by no means an expert on the thing, but I do know that it hsa two IR blsaters, on for horizontal use, and one for vertical. So that claim of yours bites the dust. Unless I'm missing your point or something. But hteres no reason to fret over something like a remote this much. If it were something like a huge DA system or control system, yes, but not over a remote. Just my 2 cents.

Well here is the thing. Sales is all about it. But I can't get a solid feel for the unit.

Carl if I remember my earlier post, I pointed out that I thought the IR transmitter was the best part of the unit from my testing. What claim are we talking about?

Actually remotes is one of the main things I fret about.. what department do I work in ... systems integration. AKA "make the remotes idiot proof and not need service."

New remotes show up and my boss sees a few bucks one way or the other and it lands on my desk with a... I WANT TO SWITCH TO THIS. MAKE IT WORK!

I have pushed to get more and more of our work to include networking and IP. When something like this comes along that is supposed to tie together things, well they remind me its my fault at work. If I didn't fret over things like this.. I probably would be as good at my job.

I know it's always hard to get use to (and trust) a new product because I think we've all been there before.

In case anyone is interested, here is the website that the trainer gave us for watching the online training modules for the NevoSL:

http://nevouniversity.webex.com/

I've watched a few of them and even though they aren't as good as getting a live training session, it's not bad and worth a look.

Also, one thing that the trainer told us about the NevoLink, is that once the NevoLink receives an IR command and blasts it out, it actually sends a confirmation back the remote and that if the remote doesn't get the reply, it'll send it out again until the NevoLink receives it. Sure, it's not RS-232, but I think it's a step above the one directional RF used today (although I haven't personally tried the new Pronto RF system, but I wasn't too happy with the old one).

There's definitely a balance here:

PRONTO RF: cheaper (no access point), slightly easier to implement (NevoLinks are pretty easy to install once you get the hang of it)
NEVOLINK: more reliable (at least it seems to be in my testing thus far) and you don't have to worry about were it's located since the NevoSL communicates through the access point, not each individual NevoLink wirelessly, so it doesn't matter how far the NevoLinks are at all.

Anyhow, that's just my opinion and I have been having pretty good success with the unit so far.

BTW, for the NevoSL media stuff, it doesn't have to be a MCE PC, it just has to be at least a Windows XP machine. Although I heard someone say that NevoSL will be able to control an Esient Fireball system very soon (browsing the content from the remote, etc.), but I'm not 100% sure. That's something that would be very cool though.

About the fireball, I red the same thing in these forums too.

My question to them when I first got the unit was could it interface with other products or servers. Like Slimserver wich is crossplatform. That is why I was so interested in a basic web browser.

I agree that all new products have growing pains. Lord knows we get them inflicted on us.

What I am really trying to find out is how the product is actually working for people.

I can't stant reading fluff from reps. and when I read about dealers who sell a product without ever having seen it or test it... ugg.

mynevo forums is like a ghost town. Do dealers just not have an interested in posting there? Remote central is a great tool to have, the combination of pros and hobbiests makes for a real community. Need a code come here and search. Or even ask.

But back to your post, that was pretty neat about the confirm code sent.

did the nevo training in hertfordshire uk this week.
when pressed the trainer did say that new software was coming out soon to allow hex codes to be cut and pasted from pronto to allow discrete codes to be used. this takes the nevo up a level in my eyes as the biggest drawback i found with it was the lack of discrete codes in the ir database
learning the hard way
