You can change the two buttons that are in the inside. The outer two buttons are fixed and can not be changed.

I have a related question. When I try to label one of the center two buttons with a symbol (for example the right-pointing-triangle that means play), it doesn't seem to work. I only see a square on the display. I have to use the word "PLAY" instead. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Yes, this will happen, as the symbols need to be at a larger font size, and there is no way to change the font size for the them two hard buttons...

I also would like to use symbols for the 2 center hard buttons, is there an easy way to resize some symbols (say fast foward and rewind) to 8 point and then use them?
