Well, started playing around in Neoedit trying to get a feel on how to approach this thing. Already downloaded the latest updates and firmware. My plan is this...customize all of the screen layouts exactly how I want them, download to the NEO, manually learn all of the necessary functions to their respective buttons (whenever possible)then upload back to neoedit to permanantly save. Anyone see any prob's with this line of thinking? (other than the possible learning snafus)

Also, I'm experiencing typical newbie prob's w/ customizing and saving the device overview layout. I've done a few searches through the archives and realized I needed to get either neohacker of neosynch to accomplish this. Problem - neohacker won't work because I don't have a JRE??? I'm running windows XP on a brand new Dell. Apparently I don't have it and can't figure out how/where to get and then install it. I know this is some kid of Java thing which isn't really my specialty (aka I don't know shish)

UPDATE!!! I was able to download the JRE successfully w/ only one small catch - I'm using my work computer and I don't have admin. proveleges to install it (even though I can install everything else) - what do I do now?

Also tried Neosynch but can't figure out how to use it. No help section w/ the software that I can find.

Can anyone spll it our for me in dummy 101 how to be able to customize the overview screen w/ either neohacker or nesynch? I'd like to incorporate some of the really coool icons (bitmaps?) from hte files section into the overview screen too if at all possible.

Thanks again for those who replied to my first post and questions.

MDB

In NeoSynch, just "Highlight" the device you want to move and then use the up "Arrow" in the toolbar to move that device to the top. It will now be the "Start Up" device.

Just remember to save it as a new file and that it will only work as long as you open the file in NeoEdit and DL it to the remote.

If you make any changes, you will have to redo this as saving anything in NeoEdit recreates the default startup Device.

The like to the NeoHacker info is:

Well thats a good start. Also check out some already ncf's in the files section. This will also give you additional ideas. You also might want some descrete codes which you will need to use neohacker. Heres the link for the java app and goodluck. Another thing learning can be frustruating at times so it might be easy to search the files section for your equipment and use what you need. Makes things go a little faster.

allamand - thanks for the reponse! I think I've got it figured out in neosynch, however when I move it to the top and select 'save as' and rename it - it appears to save ok. I then attempt to open it up via neoedit and realize it's not there. Neosynch is saving it as a file which is unrecognizeable by neoedit (has the windows logo icon next to it), therefore I can't get neoedit to recognize and open it. Do I need to save it as an .ncf file? It doesn't give me that option when selecting 'save as' in neosynch...just all files (*.*)??? I'm sure this is stupid but it has been driving me crazy for about 2 hours now. thanks agaain!!!

Also, what did you mean by making any new changes will cause neoedit to recreate a new overview screen? Does that mean I should do this step last - right before I DL it to the remote? What happens if I upload it back to neoedit after I have learned the ir codes to those buttons in the newly created overview screen?

Yes, you need to save the file as *.ncf
Is this a TSU500 model BTW? And yes, you got it on the last part. Everytime you save in NeoEdit, the software creates the OVERVIEW device pages. By making your own as a Device, you can then run MAcro's(Links)
and such off the device Overview page, also you can hide devices, since there will not be a link to them if you don't put one in.

And yes, if you re-DL the file back to NeoEdit, chanses are good that the Device you had moved to the top of the device tree will be GONE! That is why it is important to save the file as a different one.

So basicly, layout you ncf as you want, but just test everyting off your own device startup page that you plan to use. When everything looks good, move it to the top(startup) and give it a go. It isn't that hard to go back and change something if need be.

Thanks Steve...I think I figred it out. I just added *.ncf to the end of the file name and it appears to have worked. Yes it is a TSU500 BTW. Thanks again for helping out a newbie!
