we all know there are programming geeks in this forum,but are there and "mechanical" geeks that can help me open up my neo and see if the bulb has burned out?

How old is the unit? do you have warranty? This unit as far as I know does not work with a bulb, it uses el lighting with consists of a light strip and a high voltage transformer, it is not likely fixed by a do it your selfer
