Just got my Neo today (the European 930 model) and I'm pretty happy with it. I've had some fun playing about with it before getting serious (ie I did a few things before trying the PC software as I just wanted to experiment and get an idea on how it worked - I wasn't too worried about losing my configuration or anything).

Anyway, now that I've come to grips with how it works I'm trying the PC software (mostly so that I can add new buttons and customise them - channel logos especially) and though I've got the latest s/w and firmware I'm getting the message: "Could not open requested file" each time I try to open a sample .ncf file (either the ones that came with it or ones I've downloaded from here) and I get the same message once the upload function's box gets to the end when uploading.

I don't think it's anything to do with the remote as I got the same message when opening up .ncf files *before* I got my Neo (I wanted to play around as soon as I'd ordered the thing online!). I've looked at the troubleshooting page in the end of the manual and there's no mention of this problem and the help file doesn't even have a troubleshooting page! I've searched through this site but can't find any mention of it either. Can anyone help?

Specs are:
Windows 98se
ProntoNEO v2.0.5
FW v2.0.3 (that's the name of the file here and on the Pronto site but it's not the number on the firmware screen)

AntC,
Try uninstalling NeoEdit and re-installing it. The Firmware is App 2.0.3 ,V1.4.3 or something like that. At any rate you have the latest version and it should work. Butch

Cheers Butch, I've tried that and I've had no luck - I'll try it again though but I don't hold out much hope. It looks like I'll have to get on to Philips about it. It's just typical for me to have a problem that no one else seems to have had (I had a unique problem with a satellite TV card and an unrelated problem with a satellite ISP - both of which no one else had the same problems with!).

BTW I should add that I've tried starting it up as the Euro model and as the North American one and I've tried importing (and saving as) both the different models.

Did you download the latest version from Philips website? If not I would uninstall neoedit and reboot you PC. Download the latest neoedit from Philips. Shut down any programs that might be running in the background of your computer. Install neoedit and reboot your system. Run neoedit and open a sample ncf and see if it works before you sync with your remote.

I've done that JohnY2050, the first thing I tried was the software on their site as I wanted to play with the software before my NEO was delivered. It didn't work (just like it doesn't now - ie, I couldn't load any .ncf files no matter what version they were for).

I've had next to no programs running when installing this (which I've done a few times now) and I've used ctrl+alt+del to make sure that's the case, and it's still the same.

I've now found another thread that someone started a short while ago and there's a couple of other NEO owners with the same problem. Unfortunately it would appear they didn't figure it out as it's a short thread and they mention no solution (unless of course they've figured it out since but have long since fogotten about the thread).

Try this. Under start hit run and type regedit. Under edit click find. Type Philips and you should see Neoedit config file. Verify the open\command folder is using the neoedit exe to open the ncf's. the path should look something like this "c:\Program Files\Philips\NEOedit\NEOedit.exe" "%1" Sometimes when you uninstall programs things are left in the registry and stay there. This is a good way to uninstall programs. However, you really read up on it before you delete thins from here. You can realy mess up your PC if done wrong.

one more thing. This is a stupid question but I need to ask. Did you download the correct neoedit (SBC RU930)? If you did see this.

I'm pretty sure I've downloaded the right NEOedit but even if I didn't (which I don't think is the case) it wouldn't explain why I couldn't open up the North American .ncf files as well as the European ones.

I'll do what you said in your previos post later and see what happens, cheers for the help.

Well I didn't do things quite the way you said, I uninstalled NEOedit just before I read your post yesterday and today I've run regedit and there's no sign of anything left by the program so I guess that's totally uninstalled?

I'll try reinstalling again, this time I'll try the file from Remote Central

Cheers for the help you two but I've decided to take the plunge and go for the regular Pronto (the Euro SBCRU890 version). That's should hopefully be with me on Saturday and I'll be sending the NEO back when that arrives. It's only £5 more and it has far more support because of a far larger user base and it seems more of a mature product (well I guess it is as it's a lot older!), usually that's a bad thing with consumer electronics but in this case it's a good thing.

Let's just hope the software works with that!

You'll be better off with the Pronto. I think I'm going to trade in my neo in a bit. I will wait until the tsu 3000 is out, though. Maybe prices will drop or the new unit will be in my price range.
Late.

Yeah, I think I will be better off with the regular Pronto but it's a shame the NEO didn't work out. I like the fact there's more screen area on the regular Pronto and that there are far more people with them. The downside is that of course it doesn't have those hard menu buttons, it's a bit more bulky and it's quite old technology now.

I do love the size of the NEO and I absolutely love the fact that it's got all those hard buttons for menus as almost all my equipment now has menus (infact the hard buttons were almost, in their arranngement and how I had them, a replica of my Sky DBS remote).

I'd considered holding off for this new remote to hit the market but I've got the customisable remote bug now and didn't want to go back to my 8 seperate remotes again in the meantime and I figured the UK prices of the regular Pronto aren't going to drop below £135 all too soon.

Anyway, my Pronto should be with me tomorrow and I've downloaded Pronto Edit and it works (well I can open files, modify them and save them but of course I have no idea if it'll work with my remote until I get it - but this is better than last time!).

Thanks for the help though and good luck with the NEO and whatever you go for next.
