I'm running Windows ME on my desktop and my Neo says "invalid cf version or corrupt flash". According to page 30 of the user's manual, I have to download a backup copy of the default file from the neoedit software to the pronto to be able to use the remote.

Unfortunately, every time I attempt a download, it fails, indicating that the connection is not set up properly. When I click on the Options/connections menu, all I see is that no ports are found.
I've disabled the hotsync from my palm pilot software, which is the only other program on my computer that used the serial port. After wasting many hours on this problem I don't know what else to do. Any advice would be appreciated.
I have downloaded the newest version of the Neo edit software w/o success.

I had the same problem with my IBM Aptiva running win 98. I wasted many hours trying to reconfig, download updates, upload, down load....... finally I took my computer back to Best Buy along with the remote. The Tech hooked the remote to another computer and it worked fine. He then hooked it to my computer and it worked fine on mine too???? I took them back to the house and it quit working again (no com port displayed) I then hooked the remote to a friends computer..worked fine....and then hooked it to my computer again. It worked fine and has every since. I don't know why but it seems that hooking it to another computer enabled the remote to recongnize my com ports.

I have purchased 2 NEOs because the first one, 1. wouldn't connect w/1.3 NeoEdit 2. Since NeoEdit wouldn't connect I thought...gee I'll use the FirmwareUpdater to see if it connects...it did!! but it also trashed my first NEO. It would not power on even with new batteries or a hard reset.

So, I went and got a new NEO (no pun intended) and it will not connect either "no ports found" ...I'm running XP and thought maybe there was some bug so called Philips and they told me that they do not support NeoEdit. Cool, now I'm really screwed.

I don't have access to another PC so has anyone come up with any ideas about what is going on with these units? I honestly believe that this is either a class problem with the firmware or with NeoEdit...not my PC.

Thanks for any help you might give in advance.

Bill

Connecting is a well know problem, if you are using a usb adaptor this may be it, also your com port settings will play a role, I don't know much about windows as I use a Mac, however My first download always renders the remote with an invalid flash, After a few more d/l attempts, I recieve a message to perform a reset after hitting o.k., you remove the battery cover, and just after hitting o.k. on the pc press the reset button on the neo, This works every time for me.

If you do some forum search's in the neo and regular pronto forums you will find tons on information on connection problems and fixes, hope this help some of you, as for the guy with the unit that will not turn on after a firmware upgrade, return it because there is no recovering from it!

RWI,

Did you ever solve your port problem? I've similiarly wasted many hours on my one and only PC trying to download an .ncf file. I'm running Win2KPro and am being told that I have no com ports available, even though none are in use. If solved the problem, please let me know as I'm very frustrated.

Thanks,

Lee

I had a problem the first time I tried to transfer to the Neo. I had been using my PC for a year, even had an external modem connected at one time.

I rebooted my PC and checked the BIOS and the COMM port was disabled. I enabled it again and was good to go.

You probably already checked this, but just thought I'd offer my experience.

I've tried a number of things, but not that. I'm not sure how to do that. I'm pretty good at screwing up the Winbox, but not nearly as good at fixing it. Can you offer some instructions? I'm on Win2KPro, so it shouldn't be all that different from ME.

Thanks,

Lee

Lee, you need to find out how to get into your BIOS settings. These are the basic settings that configure your computer... disk drives, serial (comm) ports, date & time, etc.

Usually when booting your PC (before Windows starts) there's a key you need to press to access these settings - F10, F2, BREAK or some other key. Find the one specific to your PC. Sometimes it's displayed when booting up... Press 'key' for setup.

Carefully go into the BIOS and look for the COMM or Serial ports and ensure that they are enabled. Mine had been set to disabled, even though I had been using a modem some time back (apparently changed at some point).

Brian,

Thanks, I'll give it a try tomorrow.
