i am a newbie trying to ake changes to the device overview screen. it seems impossible to get it to save and then to save it to the neo. any help?

You can't edit the default device overview page.
However, you can make a custom one (simply add a new device, call it say 'my_overview') and then use neohacker or neosynch to make your custom device page the default.
