I tried setting up my wife's new ProntoNeo earlier this week, the first time I tried to download an NCF from NeoEdit the Pronto went catatonic and would only display the "Invalid CF version or corrupt flash" message that I'm sure that you are familiar with.

I returned that unit to Best Buy thinking that there was an actual problem with the unit, got another one. After a little research, I discovered that the problem that I had is pretty common, and that it might have to do with the serial port on the PC. I used a different PC the second time, with a completely different serial chipset, and after trying to download the default.ncf file (I didn't want to do anything creative until I saw it working) now I have a second broken Neo. Same error message, "Invalid CF version or corrupt flash". Pressing the reset button does nothing. Removing the batteries does nothing.

Is there a fix for this problem yet, or should I just bring this one back to Best Buy and move on to a different manufacturer?

Keep trying... It sometimes takes awhile to reset.
Also, have you tried the reset using the paperclip that is done under the battery cover? Also, try to Download another .ncf file

I just had this happen to me for the first time today, and I just did a combiantion of things, really can't say which of them worked.. Also, are you using the newer Firmware and Software?

Thanks for the suggestions! I have been trying to reset the thing and it really doesn't look like it's interested in coming back to life. I'll keep trying though. Am I correct in understanding that for some people at least, it is possible to get past the "Invalid CF..." error message by just being persistent in trying to reset the thing? I am successful at getting the reset switch to cut the power and cause the thing to reboot, I get a little beep and the splash screen as it boots, but then it just goes straight to the error message again.

If the reset will eventually get me past the error message, then am I correct in understanding that once it gets past that error window, I should immediately try to download a default.ncf, preferably from some computer's serial port that hasn't already wrecked the thing? I am going to keep trying to reset this thing, I just wanted to make sure that I understood what should be happening, if it did work.

As for the software, I'm using the current version of NEO Edit, but not the current firmware update. I am thinking that if I can't even get the thing to accept an NCF file from the current software without crashing, then there is no way that I could make a firmware update work. I saw a post from somebody else that tried to update the firmware as a possible solution to this problem, and it made his remote completely catatonic instead of just stuck on an error message.

I sent the original message in this thread to the Philips support desk, thinking that since there are so many people experiencing this problem, that they must be familiar with it and have some kind of workaround by now. I got a form-letter response this morning: "Please download the latest version of ProntoNEO Edit from the website: www.pronto.philips.com"

Wow, helpful support, there.

I'm going to keep trying to recover this remote, but if you are reading this forum thinking about buying one, don't. I'm on my second one now, it's a useless brick just like the first one, and Philips obviously doesn't care. Instead of saving time and making my wife's life simpler, she gets to deal with the stress of hearing me bitch about the thing and I have wasted several hours researching, installing, updating, driving back to Best Buy, and sitting around with a paperclip trying to get the thing to reset. Go and buy yourself a cobblestone brick, it's a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than the Neo, and it basically has the same functionality.

I had this same problem. What you need to do in uninstall NeoEdit and download 1.3. Anyone who hasn't done this should do it now. There are great updates, you're wasting your time messing with the old stuff. Even if some people have had problems(I didn't, and don't understand theirs) you are going to need it. Of the stuff I read above, your problem may be that you are not downloading default.ncf now. Don't wait until it reboots, default.ncf is what will reboot it. Always keep this file unchanged for this purpose. When creating other files, I would advise you not to start from scratch. Use maybe even default and rename it. Good luck.

I just followed the first two steps from page 30 of the manual and it worked fine.

Hello

I've installed NeoEdit on a new PC (with COM ports on a PCI card). I got a the first download the error "error 0070: segger module initialization failed". After that my ProntoNEO showed only "invalid CF version or corrupt flash".
Several tasks didn't help; hardware reset, download default.cfg, etc. ... always the same: "invalid CF version or corrupt flash".

I installed NeoEdit on old PC (with integrated COM ports). There I was able to download default.cfg without any problems.

It seems, that NeoEdit is very "restrictive" in working with COM ports other than on-board.

Hope this helps you :-)

Regards
Christian
