Hi All,

I am new to this forum and am amazed about the information that can be found over here, congratulations!! I do have however a question.... I am strugling with getting my DVDR 990 Philips recorder region free. I did found a lot of information and I am pretty sure that it must be possible to use the ProntoNeo to send the correct code.

On the site of Jeroen Verhaar, I found some interesting information describing how to. The information however refers to the usage of Pronto Edit version 1.05. The ProntoNeo however uses NeoEdit.

Following information came from Jeroen Verhaar's site, see also [Link: home.versatel.nl]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Connect the Pronto to your pc.

Start the program Pronto edit (Version 1.05. You don't have 1.05, download it here)
From the menu select 'Device' followed by 'Add Device'. A new 'Device' will apear in the list on the left.
Go to the 'Properties' of the 'Device' you just added (left-click on the 'Device --> Properties')
Go to the tab 'Action'
Click 'RC5/6'. A new window will appear (see picture below). Select 'RC6 mode 0'
Enter the value 4 at 'System'
At the 'Command' enter: 235

Press 'Ok' when you're ready.
Now this window will appear:

To transmit the code, do not disconnect the Pronto from your pc, start the IR test by clicking: Test IR. The DVD player's display will change into the famous dashes. Now, you can enter the code with the normal remote control:

222 222 005 255 followed by PLAY

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can anyone tell me how to use this info with the ProntoNeo?

Many Thanks, Marc.

I doubt those directions will help you. I'm guessing that those instructions create some kind of command code that when transmitted puts the DVD player into setup mode and then the #'s below activate region free. What you need is the actual IR codes that those commands send out to get into setup mode. You should ask someone who has done this to send you or post the Hex codes for this command. You can then input those commands into Neo using NeoHacker.

Alternately, you could download ProntoEdit yourself (its free) and follow those directions. Then just copy the hex code yourself.

Thanks for the reply Tkrug.

I tried your suggestion using ProntoEdit. Unless I am doing something wrong, the problem however is that you cannot see the actual IR Code ProntoEdit is creating (I used the suggested version 1.05 that can be downloaded from the remotecentral site). Also the ProntoEdit file cannot be read into NeoHacker.

I'll try it myself when I get home to see if I can capture the code with my One For All remote.

Also, Neohacker is not meant to open Pronto CCF files. You would have to copythe code from the CCF in prontoedit and paste it into an NCF in NeoHacker.

Marc, using the instructions I was able to learn the "region free" code with my one for all remote. I then taught it to my neo. I have a simple NCF with only this button. I will email it to the address in your profile. Simply open your NCF and copy this button into your configuration. Download the NCF to your NEO and test it out. Post back if it works.

(PS-this code seems to only put the DVD player into setup mode, you will need your DVD remote to enter "222 222 005 255 followed by PLAY")

Unfortunately, didn't work.... Checked the file using NeoEdit but it looks as if a standard IR code/button is generated. Is this correct?

Yes. It is the code that is transmitted to the player to put it into setup mode....at least according to the website referenced. If that code doesn't work, it may not apply to your player. Possibly b/c yours is a DVD recorder as well.

Hi Tim,

Yes, it is a DVD Recorder. I am affraid you are right that it will not apply to this player. Thanks anyway for the effort!
