wil the philps tsu 500 or the marantz rc 3500 controll a yamaha dsp-1 like the factory remote

Presumably. If the factory remote operates on traditional IR signals then the answer is yes. If the remote is RF or uses a different frequency than standard remotes, or if the remote offers 2-way communication, then the answer is no.

Well, I don't think Yamaha uses an RF remote, so I wouldn't worry about that...typically only ceiling fans, air conditioners, lighting and Satellite boxes use RF remotes. In this case there is no remote that will operate them via RF

If your equipment uses a different IR frequency than 'normal' remotes you might have luck with a different model of remote (companies like Bang and Olafson use IR outside the range that most universal remotes can operate). You will need to research what frequency your equipment operates on and then verify if another remote can use that frequency.

If your equipment uses a 2-way communication there is no remote other than the original that I know of that will work.
