I have a JVC VHS. On the original remote if you press a time key once it advances in minutes, if you hold it down it advances in 30 mins. I cant seem to copy that on my ProntoNEO. Any ideas ??

This would be my guess ....

I would think the JVC`s remote sends more than 1 code.
Another words firstly an initial code for adv of minutes ...then a further 2nd code is sent when it is held down for some time to advance 30mins etc.

So my sugestion would be merely to create 2 buttons the first button for adv of 1 minute / second button to adv 30 minutes etc.
(or create a time delayed macro-a bit more tricky)

For reference this is refered to as discrete codes.

Probably the easiest way to capture the codes independantly is with a book!
Use the book to block 1st/2nd part of code when capturing on the different buttons of your pronto.
Its trial an error , but usually works in the end.

The other way is to find the discrete codes for your JVC remote then convert to NEO format.More tricky but at least now you know what youre searching for.

Many thanks Overseer, but despite trying with a book over the last two nights this doesnt seem to work. I assume that multiple sending of the same IR code at defined intervals activates this action in the VCR ??
I have emailed JVC asking for the codes but I dont hold out much hope !!

When using the book method does it actually capture the 2 pieces of code? If so it may be that you would just need to set a macro up of the 2 codes and vary the time delay until you crack it.
(does the first part work ... are you able to advance in minutes?)

If you provide the exact model no. of the JVC vhs remote control in question Ill see what I can do about locating the discrete codes for you.

This is not a discrete code situation. The JVC advance key works the same as a lot of DVD players Forward/back keys. Tap to Skip Track, Hold to Scan.

More than likely the code was just learned dirty.

Put fresh batteries in both remotes. Make sure ambiant light in the room is minimal, and relearn the code. Hold the key on the JVC until the neo beeps good.

Many thanks Overseer, I tried again over the last couple of nights and managed to get one of the buttons to work. Only 3 more to go! Unfortunately I was so tired that I forgot what I did. I'll try putting new batteries in as Impaqt suggests

Tried again last night and it worked - dont know why -didnt put new batteries in. Havent used it for a while maybe. Many thanks.

All we need now is new software that works with XP no matter what else you're doing and a new cable that uses USB2!!!
