HELP!!! My MX-500 is suddenly on the fritz. It's worked great for me for nearly a year and then all of a sudden yesterday it went crazy on me. The screen says TEST at the top and then each line says: LCD GOOD! RAM FAIL! IROUT GOOD! IRAMP GOOD! LIGHT SKIP! and there was a little guy running across the screen at the bottom. I tried pushing every button. I took the batteries out. I replaced them with brand new batteries. Nothing changed. There is nothing in the owners manual about this. After a while, the little guy stopped running across the bottom of the screen and the RAM line now says EMPTY instead of FAIL! Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I've sent an e-mail to URC's customer service dept. but there are probably better technical people here. Any advice you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

I did send an e-mail with the details to [email protected] which is the customer service e-mail address given on their website. It's now been a week since I sent it and haven't heard a thing. I sent another one on Wednesday of this week and haven't gotten a reply to that one either. I've heard good things about URC's service but so far they haven't lived up to it. Any other suggestions?

My MX-500 just turned up from BlueDo.com and as soon as I put in the batteries I got the same screen as devdogaz. Is this a confirmed fault.. and does the unit have to be returned to be fixed?

Yes. This happens on occasion. If "RAM EMPTY" comes up on screen, there's nothing you can do to fix it. Mike www.SurfRemote.com

Yep... mine says "RAM EMPTY". Any idea what causes this? Is this some design fault with the MX-500? John.

The RAM is loaded at the factory and they may just have missed one or it didn't hold. It's a rare occurance in any case.

Scary: Stories like this is why I always have a cloned "hot" backup of my Mx500's. Would take me many hours to recreate a bum unit. IR clone would be another way to go but you would still be out of luck until you acquired another Mx 500. Roger

When this happens is it possible to get to the SETUP screen by pressing MAIN and ENT for 3 seconds? If this is the case it may be possible that Irclone can be used to download the factory default or even your saved setup and clear the problem. Has anyone tried this? Mike C

My 500 did the same thing. My backlight button was broken and rattling around inside for a while. I opened the remote and found that one of the broken pieces was metal. I wonder if this could have shorted something and wiped out the ram. Anyway, back it goes I guess unless someone has figured a way to get out of test mode.

On other models there is a complete reset by pressing MAIN and STOP (the square dot) buttons. There will be a prompt after a while for action to take..............I don't know if that works for the 500.
