If anyone is having trouble getting software for your remote, simply open the battery compartment, note the serial number, then navigate to this site:

Official Thread Rules
First, let me say that this is NOT a thread for policy discussions. Please take any of those topics over to the "big" thread. All policy-related posts will be DELETED from this thread without warning.

This thread is purely to assist those who are specifically trying to get software - any software. Post what you bought, when and where, and we might be able to help with how to get software or at least who to contact.

I realize that there is a fine line between policy and not-policy discussion, but here's a guideline: if a post goes from "how or where can I get software" to "why can't I get software" it's policy discussion!

This can also be a thread to post which Authorized Dealers are giving out what version of the software - but keep such posts to that information only. Any further discussion of an AD's software distrubtion policy should again be in the "big" thread.

Right--the SW in this thread cannot be updated. If you want the updatable software, contact your dealer.

I opened the battery door but do not see a serial number. Where exactly is it? Is it on the door itself?

Under the batteries, on a sticker.

I've downloaded the software for the MX900 (I now have a .exe file on my desktop.) But when i open the editor, shouldn't there be a tutorial or something? I'm just sitting here now, trying to figure what to do to program this thing.
Thanks for your help!

No, there's no tutorial.

Here's the link to the programming manual. Read it and it may help.

I opened up my battery case on my MX800, there's a sticker there that says

MX-800 ver 1.0
1003 000010

I've tried punching in all sorts of combinations into the universal remote site, it won't believe any of them.

I have the software on my old laptop, I just want to move it. Is there an easy way to do that without getting an install .exe from universal, or do they litter windows system directories with .dlls?

Thanks for your help,

Eric.

Does the software download include the latest ir codes or does that still have to be obtained from a dealer. I live in Australia and bought my MX-850 on a trip to the USA.

The crew at Tweeter locally told me that I could not get the software being that I'm not an authorized installer. This thread seems to indicate this is not the case. Is that so?

They're allowed to give you the software, chances are they just don't want to.

Universal Remote Control as a company has lost my respect. I purchased my MX-850 (as well as many others for clients) in the fall of 2005. I recently got a new device and wanted to update the remote. I discovered they disabled live update in the software version I have. I called URC support and they told me I had to go back to the place of purchase to get the software. They WOULD NOT tell me how to get it online.

I went to Magnolia where I purchased my remote. Magnolia IS an authorized distributor. They did not know anything about this. Now maybe it was the sales rep I dealt with and maybe not.

The point is, I have purchased a product from URC and they clearly don't care about maintaining their customer satisfaction. If there were another company with equivalent products I would most certainly switch and advise current and future clients to do so as well.

Come on URC, get your act together and realize who the customer is and stop penalizing the legit customers because you're mad your product is being sold by unauthorized dealers. Get a clue.

snappa, don't get mad at URC, the fine folks at MHT are the ones who are not servicing you. Try and talk to a manager there or have them program it for you. It is considered a professional product.
