If I had sold the remote to LadyInDistress I would have told her to do the same thing. If I ran a store and sold remotes for a living I would probably have a learning remote to lend out free or at most a very small charge just for that purpose, with a deposit held to be sure it came back of coarse. My belief is taking good care of customers is the best way to build a good business, and usually benefits everyone.

Oh, so you would have a non-profit business.

What good would a learning remote do her unless she kept it? She has an RCA code type remote?

Well her need was for one button push to unlock her TV so a lender remote with that one code pushed once at her set would probably be all she ever needed. There certainly is not much reason to buy a whole new remote for a one time once pushed button. There is a big difference between non-profit and taking well care of customers.

Try turning the main power switch on the back of the tv off.
Then hold the menu button and push that switch back on while still holding the menu button.
Keep holding the menu button until the setup menu pops up.
Next, be sure your input is set correctly(air or cable).
Next, do an auto channel search.

That did it for me. After I shut it off I had to do it one more time but it did the job. A friend of mine gave me the tv for free because nobody he new could figure it out. I took it home, got lucky, and figured it out in about ten minutes.

Hope this works for you.

buddgoodjb, this is job well done for you, what a genius. my tv now went beyond 'Lock' because of your instructions. however, no picture. i have sound, TV is set (not s-video, etc.), input is air (not cable), picture settings look normal. sound is clear, but no picture. help.

i managed to fix the picture by just knocking the unit a little bit. Some forums say that bec of the unit being carried around, some circuit might have loosened and doing this will bring the picture connection alive. Not sure how to explain .... but it works!!
The only thing left is how to permanently get rid of the 'Lock' without having to hold the Menu button every time you turn TV on.

Hi,

Our Hisense was accidently locked. I read all the other posts and thankfully came across yours. I was thinking more money spent for another remote or trash the tv! Anyway, I've made it as far as hearing the TV and changing the channels but I'm unable to see a picture. It is on cable not air so I thought I'm goin in the right direction, but I can't change channels with my remote on cable(only on tv) I know it's probably one button to fix, but thought I might ask you who made it this easy so far!

I have an RCA universal link 4 remote and a GE TV. I figured out the fastest way to program and if I can do it anybody can. This will work for any TV. Have the device turned on and hooked up to the TV. Turn on the TV. Press and hold the code search button till the light comes on on the remote. Press the device button you want to program. Use the channel up/down button and go through channels until the device comes in. Walla!
