In another discussion Damon mentioned that one needed to use a resistor if one were conneting a MRF-250 directly - via cable - to other equipment. The manual for the 250 does not mention such. I have my MRF-250 wired directly to my Denon AVR-3805 and thru the receiver to a Denon DVD-2200.

Do I need a resistor? How big?? Where? Why?

Thanks,

Craig

Craig: I *THINK* the size of the resistor is 100, if memory serves. Just add somewhere in the line between your emitter output on the MRF and before the IR in of your equipment.

Why? Well, unless you want to kill gear, the way the electronics of that MRF were designed were not in support of doin so without the resistor. I realize that's not the scientific answer you probably wanted, but that's the bottom line! ;)

I'm sure Eric would be able to explain the details to you.

Thank you,
Damon DG

The alternative would to be to get an MRF-300 and just turn the gain down.

Yes. That's what the MRF-300s were designed for.

It isn't mentioned in the manual because the MRF-250 was never designed to be hardwired to a component.

The 300 was designed to be used this way and it can be adjusted port by port.

I didn't say it wouldn't work. I have Integras, Sonys and B&Ks out there working great. Although we now use MRF300s exclusively for this purpose.

Fact is, it isn't in the manual because it wasn't designed to work this way.
